thesamefire's birthday.
There's a point where sappy public posts are the easiest thing in the world to write because someone is important and wonderful and the world should know, and then there's the next level, where you have absolutely no idea where to even start.
I just--she's propped me back up countless times when I couldn't do it on my own; she's read my stories and my papers and she's made them all better; she's my long-lost twin (albeit less emotive and more dark-haired)--the list of attributes we share at this point is ridiculous; she's a friend, plain and simple (except not simple, not at all); she believes in me when I can't do it; she's funny and she listens and we email each other so much it's a wonder we're not sick of one another (yeah, no signs of that--and it's been a year and a half at this point).
And you know what else? She's fucking smart and a great writer, a brilliant editor, viciously funny, and as much as she says she's, you know, Less About The Emotions than I am (we all know I have a lot of feelings) she's said the right thing to me so many times that I'm sort of in awe of her empathy and understanding. I'm so lucky to have found her.
So have a happy, happy birthday, dearest. I will be here, typing away at my messy draft, and I'll be thinking of you.
PS. Consider this a placeholder for you to tell me what to write, you know, when I'm through the rest of this month--I'm pretty sure my nationality will lend itself to my managing something to do with sticks and pucks and things. And while you wait for that (and the thing I haven't managed to mail you yet, omg thesis, why must you fuck up my ability to function as a normal person--uh, sorry you're getting a thesis draft before you're getting a present, ooops), here's a drabble I found this morning: Seabrook's pre-game ritual.
