I don't know, mostly the comment above is in reaction to fics where she's very blatantly the "girl" as opposed to a character in her own right (unlike the movie, where she's very much a person, not an archetype). Two things I love about her: the way she immediately tells both Clint and Selvig that it's not their fault when they wake up from being brainwashed, and the way she came through all that she's been through determined to live and love, despite it all (that's from the end of the comic miniseries, highly recommended). Oh! And the way she uses truth as a weapon.
