closer to the sun

Tonight I went for a walk with dad, about an hour before the sunset. People were playing soccer and volleyball on the field near where we live, and the all-girl team was winning the volleyball game (much like it seems the only serious contenders in the Way-family croquet match was Alicia and Lyn-Z).

We crossed the road and sat down on the cliff, watching as the light settled over the grass and the skyline. Like being in a city and not, at once.

Then we saw hot-air balloons. Four of them, to be exact. They were coming closer, hovering over the trees, and it was beautiful, absolutely stunning. But what was initially looking like a gorgeous sunset, complete with balloons (like a movie), turned into a comedy of errors pretty soon, with some pretty scary moments.

See, the first balloon meant to go down right in front of us. Only at the last second, there was a gust of wind and it lifted again, almost ending up in the middle of the road. However, the driver managed to get it airborne again, so that it reached the field on the other side of the road, where it bounce-bounce-bounced three times before landing on its side.

The second balloon almost ran into the only building in this field, but somehow swerved and executed a fairly smooth landing, swaying with the wind before the people (and the air) were let out.

The fourth balloon was the impressive one. It was the furthest away, and we saw it start going down where we know there are no fields large enough to comfortably land on. We gulped a little, but it started rising again after being completely out of sight beyond the trees. There was barely any wind at this point, so it stood practically still in the air for about ten minutes before it started coming closer to our field. It came down fast, then, but slowed enough just before touching down that the balloon barely swayed at all. Incredibly graceful, somehow, and a fantastic thing to get to see.

On the way back, we ended up right below a kestrel, hovering in the air, preparing for a dive. Dad said he felt like it was about to dive at us, and I agreed, but we still didn't move.

Now, I'm waiting for the joint aches to subside (modern medicine is sometimes marvelous) and looking at the dark outside. We can't see the stars, yet, but the closer we get to winter, the clearer they'll become.

I'd steal the death match meme, except I'm feeling sweet and cozy tonight. I'd rather talk about cuddling.

If you feel like it, give me two characters, bandom (MCR or MSI), DCU (Birds of Prey, the Bats (especially the ladies)), and Buffy, and I'll tell you about them cuddling. Wacky crossovers are totally okay, though please don't give me Bob and Batman.

It's your fault for being adorable and amazing and perfect in the first place! By which I mean

Ugh me toooooo. They're so...them, idek. They're the kind of couple that shouldn't make sense at all but really really does, somehow! And aww, I'm sorry you have emo, although it is a very nice song! I mean. Uh. Words that make sense together.

Man, I am not too good to you, there is no such thing. In fact, I'm being kind of a dick in the sense that I can't even express how much ilu! You deserve all the praise in the world bb, all of the love and cuddles and hugs! Also I wish your unidentified disease would gtfo already, this shit is NOT FAIR.

I want so badly to go up in a hot air balloon. Sure, I'm scared of heights but who cares? Life is for living (and hot air ballooning, apparently) etc <3

Basically, all of these snippets have made the world a better place. Um, my request would be... Bob and Lyn-Z? Not necessarily as a pairing, I just think that they would be good at giving each other cuddles in a totally platonic way. :D

Oh, darling, the one above you is the last one I'm doing for now (I'm also writing more Bob&Gerard&Lyn-Z and Batman in the comment thread above)--but [livejournal.com profile] mahoni JUST posted an excellent Bob and Gerard cuddling fic. It takes place after Bob had that staph infection and is actually much, much better than anything I could pull off. Truth be told, I'm all cuddled out. *grins*

Don't worry, it's ok. :)

Hahaha, your comforting skills are the very best of skills, my darling. It's okay, I'll get over my stupid heartache, I swear. And my Mystery Virus, too.

Come and cuddle with me FOREVER, okay? *beams at you*

*grins* Thank you! It turned out a lot more fun than my initial despair at seeing the prompt would have indicated.

Ain't that the truth, darling, ain't that the truth. ♥ And this is from an AU that just decided to move into my head.

Bob closed the door to the apartment behind him and tried to muster up enough energy for his usual sarcastic 50's "Honey, I'm home!" comment, but couldn't manage it.

"Hey," he said instead, when he saw Lyn on the couch in the living room. She was leaning her head against the wall, as if it hurt to hold her head up.

She opened her eyes and looked up blearily.

"Work?" he asked, as he slid his messenger bag off and toppled down onto the couch next to her.

Lyn made a tiny noise and nodded.

"Asshole fuckers stole my goddamn ideas again and then yelled at me for not finishing the crap project they gave me last week," she said.

Last week, even, her voice would have been sharp, but it was tired, so tired now.

He got a hand up and pulled on her arm.

"Come on," he said, and she folded herself down, head in his lap. He kept his hand running through her hair as he told her about his day, about how many times he'd had to adjust the levels for a drummer who was never going to be anything but mediocre, and then he fell silent.

"You shouldn't work there anymore," he said quietly, and she rolled over and looked up at him.

"Yeah, you shouldn't stay at that goddamn pub either."

"I met this guy today," Bob said instead of responding with his usual rueful smile, because, you know, maybe. Hope was stupid, but maybe.

"Yeah?" Lyn had closed her eyes again, but she was listening. Best friends for ten years meant she must be able to hear it in his voice, the maybe, singing, singing.

"Yeah. Name's Schechter, and his partner's this guy named Way. They work with, you know Amanda Palmer?"

And that was it, Lyn's eyes were open and sharp, and there, there was the smile she wasn't letting out, not yet. Hope was stupid, and yet. Maybe.

Hope was stupid, but maybe.

You are my favorite, ever. Hands down. There definitely needs to be more Bob/Lyn-Z fic, in which they are tough and fierce, but occasionally need to hug the crap out of each other. And then, you know, go back to saving the world. :D
