This week, Don't Ask Don't Tell ended, and the state of Georgia executed a man whose case was riddled with holes. Some days it's hard to know what to feel.

Given the devastating outcome of the Troy Davis case, now is perhaps a good time to mention The Innocence Project. The link goes to a list of things you can do to fight the death penalty. (Link via goshemily.)

Also, fandom is doing a Help Somalia auction for the famine. The auction closes on October 8th. I can't offer anything this round, but I will absolutely bid once my paycheck comes in (and I'm donating again either way, because god, every little bit helps and this is horrible), and hey, go take a look. I know at least one bandom writer is offering.

thank you for posting the help somalia link. I was going to blather about the situation in my lj but wasn't really sure if I should/if it would annoy people. so many people in desperate need of help :(

It's pretty horrifying. Do post about it, if people don't want to read about it they can scroll past (argh--I do know there are people for whom fandom is the only positive thing and okay, yes, but that isn't true for everyone). It's so important.
