Ficlet: T'is The Season

So I woke up to four snowflake cookies in my inbox, and over the course of the day I ended up getting another five, and man, it made my day. I didn't get any other writing done today (I know, I know, bad Vee), but I did manage this silly thing just now.

[livejournal.com profile] nokomis305, [livejournal.com profile] sunsetmog, [livejournal.com profile] modillian, [livejournal.com profile] bexless, [livejournal.com profile] liketheroad, [livejournal.com profile] halflinen, [livejournal.com profile] thesamefire, [livejournal.com profile] delphinapterus, and [livejournal.com profile] bunnymcfoo--this one's for you. It is ridiculous, I am ridiculous, but I love you lot. And technically one of you isn't reading fic right now, but I hope she will take this in the spirit in which it is intended.

Title: T'is The Season
Pairing/Category: Gen
Word Count: 400
Warnings: None
Characters: Gerard, Lyn-Z, Joe Jonas, Jon Walker, Spencer Smith, Greta Salpeter, and Brendon Urie. Mentions of Nick Jonas and Mikey Way.
Summary: Um, the one where they're working in the bakery part of the workshop that makes the winter holidays happen (not just Christmas!). Gerard gets stressed, Joe Jonas knocks over cookies, and Greta sings. That's mostly what happens. This has no redeeming virtues apart from its cast.

The fourth time Joe knocked over a stash of cookies waiting to be decorated and they all crumbled, Gerard made a despairing noise and looked about him for anyone, anyone at all, who could take Joe off his hands.

Spencer snickered from where he was slowly transferring the cut cookies to be baked and avoiding Brendon’s flailing (it really was a pity, but Brendon was truly their most gifted dough maker, so the fact that he was a total menace in the kitchen had to be ignored).

“Give him something to do,” Jon suggested, from where he was noodling around on a guitar in the corner.

Greta poked him in the arm when he stopped playing (they were making up a twelve-stanza long ode to all the December holidays they could find, which was going to be performed at the winter solstice next week), and Jon nodded apologetically and started trying out different chord changes again.

“I could lend him to Brian?” Gerard tried, but everyone in the kitchen shook his head at him at once.

“Bob and Brian have two days to fix the sled,” Lyn-Z said absently, drawing a perfectly straight green line along the edge of a tree cookie, and Gerard sighed again.

“I know. I know, it’s just, we need the cookies!”

Joe cleared his throat. “Could I maybe try, maybe, decorating them? I don’t mean to get in the way, I’m just, well, Nick calls it energetic and rolls his eyes at me a lot.”

Gerard looked a little closer at him. “Your brother went with Mikey, right?”

Joe nodded glumly, and Gerard smiled ruefully.

“I know how you feel, man, I miss my brother too. Come on, let’s go bug Lyn and see if we can do this cookie thing.”

“Alright!” said Joe and grinned at him. He did a tiny victory dance right where he stood, not knocking anything over this time, and Gerard laughed.

“That’s more like it!”

“Looks like there’ll be Christmas after all, huh,” said Greta, and nudged Jon, who said "Hanukkah too!" and obediently started in on their song. While they played, Gerard taught Joe how to decorate a tree cookie without smudging the green icing and Lyn-Z watched for a while, making sure they didn't fuck up, before going back to her own work, and they and the rest of the kitchen hummed along with the new song.

Um, there is ... no fic? (I don't have time to read it now, but I went to bookmark it, and ... no fic /o\ )

It's there now! I shouldn't attempt to code when I'm sleepy. *grins*

Awww, this is so adorable! :DDD

It is RIDICULOUS is what it is, but thank you! *grins*

PS. In case you're leaving now now now, just tell that place you have to go back to arrange some last moving home details! No way can they actually be mad about that.

[identity profile] absenteye.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
It is RIDICULOUSLY ADORABLE, and it warms my little heart, and ilit! *twirls it*

They called about some questionnaire thingy, and I told them I was going to my graduation ceremony (what! if it was last week I wouldn't even be lying /o\) and they didn't seem angry or anything, but obviously I didn't get the job. Which is kind of a relief, because it would have been pretty terrible!

I was like, I WANT TO WRITE ABOUT COOKIES, and, yeah. Things happen. ♥

Three months of that, ugh. You deserve a lot better, and hey, now you've done a good interview! Excellent practice! I did one month of ICA customer service, and one month was definitely enough. They asked me if I wanted to stay longer, but I was going to the US for two weeks, so. (THANK GOD, really.)

[identity profile] absenteye.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
ODE TO A COOKIE :D ilu

You are the best. I am happy about that interview! I feel like I just nailed that sucker and could possibly do it again, which does wonders for my wilting confidence, let me tell you! \o/ Ugh, I'm glad you don't have to do that anymore, it does not seem like a job worthy of your awesome AT ALL. *smooshes you*

I am nothing if not ridiculous. Also, that's clearly the title I should have chosen, oh man. GENIUS.

You can totally do it again! Interviews are really not so bad if you can keep in mind that you are Better Than They Deserve. Which you are. *grins* No, it really really wasn't--most of the people were great and I have some A++ funny stories about ridiculous callers, but ugh, one month was at least one week too many.

Isn't it a nice thought? Like, they make candles and decorations and allow for seasonal differences in holidays that are celebrated everywhere and they write songs and, you know, Do Things. ♥

YES, of course there is. And really, sometimes they tinker with the machine secretly so it produces pink bubbles instead of pale mist, but it doesn't seem to affect the holiday spirit, or they don't think so at least.

oh! this made me smile so very, very widely. HOLIDAY-MAKING! BROTHERS! bob and brian fixing the sled(!) and tiny victory dances and lyn-z being an ace cookie decorator and so much ♥

I'm so glad it made you smile! It was written while very sleepy (hence the ridiculous), so I'm really glad it made any sense at all. ♥

Moast ridiculous in all the land. I thought about adding Jimmy, Frank and Bert in as some sort of Holy Trinity of Mischief, but the ficlet format didn't really allow for it. *grins*

FLAILY STRESSED OUT GERARD, UGH, ILHIM. This is so cute I can hardly stand it, Vee! I am picturing a Nightmare-Before-Christmas-like scenario taking place, only with EVEN MORE awesome holidays all in one spot, and Gerard and Mikey and Lyn-Z periodically sneaking off to Samhain/Halloween/Dia de los Muertos to visit Frank the Pumpkin King. :D :D :D

BOB AND BRIAN FIXING THE SLED. *draws hearts*

Yes! Exactly like that. This sort of wrote itself, and I facepalmed a bit when I noticed just how ridiculously cute it was. I mean, seriously.

THEY ARE MY FAVORITES. KIND OF. *grins*

Wonderful. Love how Lyn-Z is so unphased by everything.
