I don't know that I'd call it lucky, more awesome. And healthy. *grins* And there's a huge difference between being aware of what you eat and feeling guilty/shaming others about it, right? It IS immensely valuable to have friends who talk about how good the food is instead of whether or not they should be eating it or however many calories it has--food should be a joy, I think. If you have a medical condition that makes you have to think about what you eat, that shouldn't prevent you from thinking about food itself with love (as much as you may not love what your disease makes you do). And it sounds like your mom was able to do that, which is awesome.
