the light of the ground, the dust in the air

I come bearing recommendations!

First things first: [livejournal.com profile] nokomis305 wrote me a little ficlet called Here All The Bombs Fade Away. And look, it's the Bats being dysfunctional and adorable, the way they do so well. Her Jason is a sight better than current canon (I didn't read Battle For The Cowl, but I'm informed by reliable sources that it wasn't awesome), her Steph is such sheer joy I'm hard-pressed to express it properly, and her Tim and Babs, yes, it's all good, it's all awesome here. ♥

Then we have the first two BBB recs:

[livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight's Pick The Poison (And Pour Yourself A Glass) is thoughtful, sharp as fuck, and, well, it's a kink fic that doesn't back away from the possibility of things going somewhat wrong and getting messy. And there's cuddling, you know how I feel about people fucking up and then cuddling. It's William/Gabe, William/Mike Carden, and probably not in the way you think. It's a fantastic story.

[livejournal.com profile] fannyt's Imagine Knowing Me is about as sweet as the last story is sharp, and I recommend it equally. It's a gen crossover of bandom/HP, set in the year of the Chamber of Secrets, when Brendon ends up in Slytherin by mistake, and, you know, confuses the Slytherins a lot. So it's a sweet story, right, but it's also a story that manages the fusion amazingly well, right down to setting up a group of friends containing Ginny, Luna, and the Panic boys, and using it to say something about the idea of the Houses of Hogwarts.

Go read! All of these are fantastic. ♥

See You In The Morning Light (no_tags reveal and rec)

I'm going to start by I rec the one [livejournal.com profile] lyo wrote for me, Space Where We Meet Is Different From The Rest, because it is a girl!Mikey/Alicia and a boarding school AU, and it is sweet and achy and sharp and fair to the characters and god, I love it so so much. She captures the confusion of figuring out your sexual identity when you're a teenager so well, and how pressure to conform can fuck you up, and I fell more than a little in love with her Mikey. Go read, go read.

This post is also a belated [livejournal.com profile] no_tags reveal--not that it is all that necessary, because as at least three of you guessed, I wrote the one that had talking fish and Lyn-Z being a Real Girl. *grins* There were two things I wanted to do: one was to not write anything too over-the-top (my contrary self wanted to see if I could make them kiss in a way that actually wasn't super-romantic, even if the story was clearly heading toward a place where they fell in love), and the other was to make damn sure I didn't reduce Lyn-Z to a muse (that was mostly an ending problem, feel free to tell me if I managed). Mostly, I had so much fun writing this story, especially because I cunningly figured out that it was for [livejournal.com profile] wasoncedelight (it took no great stealth, her photobucket name is somewhat revealing) and therefore got to write for a darling of mine, at the same time as I could be reasonably sure she would like it. So, dear all, here is a story about Gerard and a mermaid. Sort of.

Title: See You In The Morning Light
Pairing/Prompt: Gerard/Lyn-Z, based on this photo.
Rating: PG
Warnings: No warnings needed.
Summary: What would you do if a strange girl washed up on shore and demanded a kiss?
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] no_tags, originally posted over here. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] anoneknewmoose and [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith for looking it over and making me fix the ending.

It was dusk when Gerard got to the beach. )
