So
torakowalski did something hard on Monday. And I promised her something as a reward. This is it. T'is but a tiny, silly, overly sweet thing, babe, but I hope you like. (I love you LOTS AND LOTS. Well done, my dear. This was also almost Brendon/Andrew Garfield, but I wasn't sure how you'd feel about Andrew with anyone but Jesse, even if I was quite sure Jesse was in love with Emma Stone in this verse.)
ETA: And somehow I was deciding between two titles and named it BOTH. Ooops! Only one remaining now.
Title: How Well We Rhyme
Fandom: Bandom/Spider Man Reboot Verse
Pairing(s): pre-Brendon/Peter Parker
Rating: PG-13
Word count: 927
Summary: It's not that Brendon wants to go home. It's not.
Author's notes: The title is from Josh Ritter's "Bright Smile, Dark Eyes." Because, well.
( Normally, Brendon likes college. )

Below are some fandom cliches taken from the tropes meme that went around a while ago. Pick one and give me a pairing (and some details if you want) and we'll see what I can come up with.
Preferred fandoms are: X-Men: First Class, Bandom (you lot know what I write), BTVS, DCU and Veronica Mars but I'm open to others as well. AU and genderfuck prompts are always more than welcome.
Each trope can only be picked once; pairings and fandoms can be re-used.

3. drunk!fic
4. huddling for warmth
5. pretending to be married
6. secretly a virgin
7. amnesia

10. truth or dare
11. historical AU
12. accidental-baby-acquisition

Fic Post: It's Really Something
Jun. 18th, 2011 04:28 pmSo it was
torakowalski's birthday yesterday. This was supposed to be posted then, but due to a series of unfortunate events (a lost bank card, a broken power chord, a family that is just not behaving well), it is a little bit late. It is also not as long as I meant it to be, because they've not made it easy, these two. But here it is, this silly little thing, and I hope you like it.
I just--Tora. Tora Tora Tora. She chatfics things like Brendon/Peter Parker, girl!Bob/girl!Brian, Bob/Patrick/Brian and so on, she saves me from sleeping on the streets of London when Heathrow closes down, she likes bookstores as much as I do and lets me make her read things, and she's just about the awesomest friend you could have. I can't tell you how glad I am that you are in my life, darling. (You all wish you had a Tora, but you can't have mine).
Title: It's Really Something
Rating: PG-13
Summary: High School AU. A sequel to Got That Crazy Rhythm. He did wear the dress.
Pairing: Bob/Brian.
Warnings: None, really. Teenagers and mucking about with everyone's ages, that's about it. Some angst. At first.
Word Count: 1001
Disclaimer: Bob Bryar is not a girl, nor did he go to high school with Brian Schechter or Z Berg.
Author's Notes: For
torakowalski on her birthday. ♥The title is from Dylan's "Had a Dream About You, Baby."
( He just wasn't listening. )

May. 11th, 2011 08:33 amThis entry was supposed to be about London. Because I have a lot of happy things to talk about, including but not limited to brunch with the internet, Brendon Urie's face, waffles and more waffles, Bristol in all its awesomeness, some of my favorite girls (and I miss them already), the accidental time travel-esque fic I'm writing, all of the good food, many new books, and so on. But. I got an email this morning, and.
According to Laena's twitter, The Like are on indefinite hiatus, and we are to make of that what we want to make of it. Which, I mean, as much as I am absolutely going to take that as not-ruling-out-more-stuff-in-the-future-COMPLETELY (I am nothing if not optimistic), is still really really sadmaking. I never got to see them live, I never got to hear the new things they were recording, I won't get to see where they could go together, I just--dammmit. Dammit. They mattered to me. Their existence mattered to me. So there will be a happy entry about London, but not right now, because I am sad, this morning and my heart, it's a little bit broken. They're my band, you know? And I hope they come back, I HOPE they come back, but I want them to be around now. ♥

I'm ready to leave, I'm ready to live
Mar. 20th, 2011 09:57 amSo I've been making happy little mentions of that new album for a few days, but I haven't talked about it at length yet (except for in email with some lovely people who don't mind it when I capslock at them, er, come out with measured and considered commentary I mean). But I do want to talk about it here. (Partly because pollen season is starting and I woke up decidedly grumpy, and writing this will help.)
The following contains: incoherent commentary, music nerdery, delight, some talk about voices and production and fun (the regular kind, though I am horribly jealous of those of you who get fun. as an opening act), and all of it adds up to a great deal of excitement about seeing them live in May (if the stars all align in the right way), for I have heard VERY good things about their most recent live shows.
Also it got pretty long.
( makes me feel like summer will actually happen )

Fic Post: Make You Feel
Mar. 6th, 2011 11:58 pmIt's okay to post twice if the second time is also a fic, right? Ahem. This is, if possible, even sillier than the last one. Pure cotton candy fluff. ♥
Title: Make You Feel
Pairing(s): Z/girl!Spencer
Rating: PG
Warnings: None.
Word count: 1200
Summary: Z was thinking about a girl. HS AU.
A/N Apparently I'm writing
torakowalski silly stories instead of writing my own big bang. But she deserves them! She wrote somewhere over 8000 words on her big bang this weekend, because she's awesome like that.

Title: Lost The Plot

Um, as always, I bring shocking news. I wrote All That's Best of Dark and Bright, which, yes, it has girls and quiet moments of emotional intensity and an authoritarian regime and magic. I'm not predictable. *grins*
Title: All That's Best of Dark and Bright
Pairing/Prompt: 57, The Like (gen or any pairing--Z/Tennessee), college shenanigans OR Brendon/Spencer, supernatural creatures.
Summary: Z had been waiting for months. A story of werewolves, love, and the beginnings of rebellion.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None besides implied violence.
Word count: 1100
Notes: It appears I wrote both the prompts. Kind of. A little bit. The title is Byron's.

Merry Christmas! (recs)
Dec. 25th, 2010 09:55 pmDarling flist, it's the day after Christmas for me and actual Christmas for many of you: hi. I hope you're having a good day whether or not you celebrate, and I just wanted to say hi and love and stuff. Thanks for sticking around through what was a fairly tough year in many ways (though awesome in so many others). More on this later.
Right now I just want to rec two stories that lovely people wrote for me:
The First Time... is my Yuletide, and it's Bliss and Pash from Whip It, which, holy shit, have I ever said how much I love that movie? I LOVE THAT MOVIE. And this fic nails Bliss and her awkwardnesses and her certainties and her eventually-gets-everything-right so well, it made me absolutely super-happy. GO READ.
Then there's the Bandom Christmas challenge one, which, oh. It's To Wait For Love with Annie and Z and Z, oh, this Z is so perfect. She's quirky and getting steadier and she's figuring herself and her feelings out and I just--it's like you know me or something, dearest author. Thank you.
So go read about girls falling in love, you know, in between opening gifts and eating too much food or staring at the snow (or the flood, in one case). I'm going to go watch Mamma Mia with my family and SING ALONG TO EVERY SONG. Because we're dorks like that. And then I will crash; holy shit, how am I still this tired?

things to read and things to love
Sep. 26th, 2010 06:18 pmThere's been some conversation about diverse characters and fandom again--
inlovewithnight has a fascinating entry about the mechanisms of that over here.
In that vein, I just found 6 Degrees for Band(om) Femslash, and oh man, it is the best thing in the world. It is now easy to figure out how a whole bunch of female musicians may have met through a series of different links--they use Vicky-T as a starting point, but its entirely possible to extrapolate. So if you're like me and hate doing canon research for RPF, look no further. Also, this project has short primers for 700 female musicians. Uh-huh. That number is indeed correct. Go tell them they're awesome.
In other news, I had a birthday two weeks ago! And people were wonderful, as they tend to be. ♥ There were birthday posts and emails and fic IOUs and a lot of love going around, and then--yeah.
blindmouse posted what she tells me is a placeholder for a different story, which, okay, if you're going to post a short not-the-real-present-fic for me and have it contain Z/Tennessee, mermaids, magic, THE SEA, and us-against-the-world, well. You win at placeholders. ♥ Sea Child. ♥
And then, okay,
torakowalski? She just--she wrote me a story that has everything I love IN THE WORLD. And she's the biggest sneak, too, because she mentioned the idea to me in London and I went *____* and then she went quiet, but I HAD NO IDEA. It is THE BEST STORY, you guys, THE BEST STORY.
Seriously. It's called Normal Life Like Sleepwalking, it has Bob-as-a-girl, Bob/Brian, Bob being competent and quiet and funny, it has The Like, it has LAENA AND A VIOLIN, it has violence and people being stupid about caring about each other--IT IS THE BEST STORY. I'm repeating myself. But oh, I love it so fucking much.

temptin' you to defy it (prompts post)
Sep. 4th, 2010 11:06 pmTonight, I have rewritten the introduction to my thesis so that it accurately reflects what it is about (and in the process, things became very clear in my head in a beautifully structured way). I might be feeling fairly pleased with myself at the moment.
Now, though, I am drinking beer, working on old ficlet prompts and contemplating stories, the kinds I like to tell. So if you're around and feel like it, give me two characters, a pairing or a friendship, some kind of 'first' or realization, and a setting. Bonus points for rare pairings, weird inclusions of magic, wacky AUs or crossovers, etc. I will do five or six or so. ♥
(And yes, I realize the fic I just posted also fits this. I did say the kinds of stories I like to tell. *grins*)
Fandoms/bands: The Like, PATD, The Young Veins (but probably not the new members, they're named Andy and Nick and--Nick? right?), FOB, BTVS, Veronica Mars, DCU, potentially something else that I have forgotten.

Aug. 10th, 2010 09:49 pmOver here: Bandom Ladies Appreciation Post! Go show your love, flist. (Also, someone should seriously come talk to me about The Like GSF, here or there or on email.)
midsommarnattens ljus (prompts post)
Jun. 25th, 2010 01:44 pmTonight is Midsummer Night's Eve. I realize I haven't yet finished the female characters prompts, but I promise I will (part of the problem is that I want to write epics for every one of those prompts, so I'm trying to slash them down to a manageable size--telling part of the story, if you will) and I couldn't let tonight go by without doing this. It's my favorite holiday, the shortest night of the year (technically that was on Monday, but hey), and it comes with dancing and the sea and food and magic.
So prompt me, dearlings. A pairing or gen (give me a character, then), a fandom (The Like, Bob and Brian, Veronica Mars, the Bats (DCU), BTVS, the Panic boys, Greta, Kitty and Lyn-Z...), and a quote from A Midsummer Night's Dream. They'll be my reward come Monday when I'm allowed to think about other things again.
And now I am off! An island awaits. ♥

It's
fictionalaspect's birthday! Dearest cowriter, light of my life, I hope you have the day you want today. I believe I've told you before that I think you're marvelously talented, that it's ridiculously easy to write with you, that you make me kind of happy just in general too, not just because you agree that rare pairings can be the most fun ever. I just love the way you think, loveling, and I love how kind you are, and I love that I found you. ♥ Anyway. You'll never guess what I wrote you--no, you totally will. I hope you like, a little bit. All my love, yeah?
Title: Why Wait Any Longer
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: Annie/Laena
Summary: Annie pines. High School AU, an outtake from an, um, bigger verse. Also, sort of a barista!AU with awkward girls instead of boys.
Warnings: None, really.
Word Count: 2800
Disclaimer: This particular incarnation of The Like did not go to school together, ergo, this story did not really happen.

So it's
torakowalski's birthday. Most of you don't know this, but Tora was basically my second friend on livejournal, or something like that (we met because I started telling her a story about Bob kidnapping his poor, stressed manager and taking him on a road trip to the Grand Canyon--yes, that story), and she was the third one I met in real life. You guys, she is so wonderful. Hilarious (and she has the best smile) and tiny and great and we spent an afternoon at Foyle's talking about Bob/Brian porn and scandalizing the poor gentleman next to us--and soon I will see her again! I am of the excitement.
This is my poor, paltry offering for her birthday--it is so silly, so silly, but you know how ridiculous I am, darling, and I hope you like it. It's been--you are a good part of why my life is just a little better these days. All the love ever, yeah? ♥

I come bearing recommendations!
First things first:
nokomis305 wrote me a little ficlet called Here All The Bombs Fade Away. And look, it's the Bats being dysfunctional and adorable, the way they do so well. Her Jason is a sight better than current canon (I didn't read Battle For The Cowl, but I'm informed by reliable sources that it wasn't awesome), her Steph is such sheer joy I'm hard-pressed to express it properly, and her Tim and Babs, yes, it's all good, it's all awesome here. ♥
Then we have the first two BBB recs:
inlovewithnight's Pick The Poison (And Pour Yourself A Glass) is thoughtful, sharp as fuck, and, well, it's a kink fic that doesn't back away from the possibility of things going somewhat wrong and getting messy. And there's cuddling, you know how I feel about people fucking up and then cuddling. It's William/Gabe, William/Mike Carden, and probably not in the way you think. It's a fantastic story.
fannyt's Imagine Knowing Me is about as sweet as the last story is sharp, and I recommend it equally. It's a gen crossover of bandom/HP, set in the year of the Chamber of Secrets, when Brendon ends up in Slytherin by mistake, and, you know, confuses the Slytherins a lot. So it's a sweet story, right, but it's also a story that manages the fusion amazingly well, right down to setting up a group of friends containing Ginny, Luna, and the Panic boys, and using it to say something about the idea of the Houses of Hogwarts.
Go read! All of these are fantastic. ♥

love makes you do the wacky
Jun. 7th, 2010 10:21 pmThree things!
1. I got my ass kicked by my supervisor today, in all the best of ways. It was two hours of completely tearing apart a section in my thesis, and in the process of doing so, she showed me what was wrong with the analysis and how to take a position as a researcher. Which she thinks I should do, because my thesis is "worthwhile" and "fits in the field" and "eventually publishable." I LOVE HER YOU GUYS. Remember the woman from last year? NIGHT AND DAY.
2. I'm rewatching Buffy. Who here loves that show? Is it not the best? I'm in the middle of season 2, and I just, ugh. Giles! Willow! Joyce! Cordelia--I LOVE HER AND HER BITCHY SELF SO! OZ! The vamps--here is where I liked Spike the most, when he was with his crazy lady, and I do like Angel here too. Even Xander has his moments--he's a spot-on teenage boy a lot, so sometimes I want to throttle him, but sometimes he is wonderful. Buffy herself, oh man, I love that girl so fucking much. She's a teenager and she's brave and she hurts and she puts herself back together again and--I just love her, I really really do. *fails at coherency* Come talk to me! Favorite quotes! Moments! Whatever. ♥
3. I signed up for h/c bingo, I'm sure you're all astonished. Because, right, try and think of a single story I've posted that has none, okay? Can you? Comment ficlets don't count. Yeah, I know.
Anyway! I would love ideas! I might rework them into something that is a shade of a remnant of a sliver of the original idea, but still. *beams encouragingly* I will write: The Like, Bob, Brian, Mikeyway, assorted members of FOB and Ashlee Simpson, PATD, TYV, BTVS (especially right now), Veronica Mars, the Bats...
( here is my card! )

( here is my card! )
