Reveals are up! I haven't read much yet this year, what with working a lot during the past week, so I have one million rec posts in tabs from before the reveal and am expecting to do some reading over the next week.
First things first: again, a million thanks to
elementalv for writing The first time..., the Bliss/Pash figuring-it-out fic of my HEART. I loved it so much; I love them so much. Go read and tell her she's awesome. I've reread that story at least eight times and I start quietly beaming to myself every time. So much ♥ (And if you haven't seen Whip It, any of you, oh my god, DO SO IMMEDIATELY.)
Secondly, I wrote Journey To Make, Horizon To Chase for metonymy, which was Narnia/Tam Lin and Susan/Caspian. I just--I don't think I can properly explain how much I loved writing this. I'm going to babble some more about it below, with spoilers for the central idea behind the story.
I hadn't actually signed up to write Narnia because I'd only ever read the books in Swedish, but I had signed up to write Tam Lin, so that's what we matched on.
But then I got my prompts, and first on the list was the Narnia one, and she asked for a better ending for Susan. I went "....!!!!!!!". I'm sure you're all very surprised. And it was so easy for me, somehow, to link that with Blackstock and faerie and the possibilities of getting stuck there, as well as the Dawn Treader voyage and the mysterious islands Caspian ended up on, and then the fact that the Narnia stories is built on the idea of travel between worlds. (Vee coming up with a crazy crossover? Also very surprising, I'm sure.) So I had my story. I had the last scene in my head almost from the beginning, it was just a matter of getting Susan there.
This is the point where I express my undying gratitude to my betas:
torakowalski who got the first draft and told me "There isn't enough story there," which was exactly what I needed to hear to fix it, and then proceeded to go through and Brit-pick and story-beta it for me wonderfully;
emilytheodd who loves Tam Lin as much as I do, who encouraged me when I first thought of the idea and then did the Tam Lin-and-other-things beta,
redsnake05 who went through and Narnia-picked it for me, as well as pointing out other things she noticed; and
athenejen who noticed a bunch of little but important things the rest of us had missed, particularly on a plot-and-consistency level. Thank you SO MUCH, guys, I couldn't have done it without you.
And lastly, the response to this story has blown me away. Utterly and completely. Every comment on something I loved writing this much? Ugh, so many ♥
