Dear livejournal, right now I have a [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski and the weather is lovely and we saw X-men: First Class yesterday (lovely tragic gay romance, entertainingly wrong about other things). Tonight I go on holiday from work. It's a good week.

Oh, and there was a story that went up yesterday. I was out between 9 and midnight, so I didn't get a chance to do my own post (meaning my wonderful cowriter posted the whole thing, and you should all gasp in awe, because damn, is she ever amazing), but here it is. Same verse as Why Wait Any Longer, which was posted almost exactly a year ago.

Title: Where We Land
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] fictionalaspect and [livejournal.com profile] harborshore
Band(s): The Like, Panic! At the Disco, The Young Veins
Pairing(s):: Brendon/Z, Ryan/Spencer/Tennessee, Annie/Laena
Word Count: 55,306
Rating/Warnings: NC-17. One scene contains violent imagery and references to the threat of attempted non-con. Some scenes also contain homophobic language and sexualized insults directed at women. There is no actual dub-con or non-con in this fic.

Summary:Ryan and Z are the resident outcasts of their small Midwestern town, best friends who are fiercely protective of themselves and each other. As junior year starts, Z's trying to get her (struggling) band off the ground, and Ryan mostly just wants to be left alone--but everything changes when Brendon Urie transfers to their school.

master post, full summary, author's notes and wonderful extras are over here

This story, you guys. We've been writing it for over a year, and it's been such a process of falling in love with the characters, over and over again, of falling into the friendship of Ryan and Z, their you-and-me-against-the-world, of writing about learning trust and love and figuring out how to make it alright without glossing over the hard things. What started as an accidental commentfic ([livejournal.com profile] fictionalaspect said "Spencer/Ryan/Tennessee" when I asked for a rare pairing, and then we came up with Brendon/Z as a counterpart, and two weeks later we had 17K) grew into something I--it's hard to explain. I loved working with [livejournal.com profile] fictionalaspect (so much, holy shit), I love what we made, I'm so glad it's done but I'm also bewildered that this enormous project (for me, anyway--longest fic I ever posted) isn't--we finished it. Here it is.

This entry was supposed to be about London. Because I have a lot of happy things to talk about, including but not limited to brunch with the internet, Brendon Urie's face, waffles and more waffles, Bristol in all its awesomeness, some of my favorite girls (and I miss them already), the accidental time travel-esque fic I'm writing, all of the good food, many new books, and so on. But. I got an email this morning, and.

According to Laena's twitter, The Like are on indefinite hiatus, and we are to make of that what we want to make of it. Which, I mean, as much as I am absolutely going to take that as not-ruling-out-more-stuff-in-the-future-COMPLETELY (I am nothing if not optimistic), is still really really sadmaking. I never got to see them live, I never got to hear the new things they were recording, I won't get to see where they could go together, I just--dammmit. Dammit. They mattered to me. Their existence mattered to me. So there will be a happy entry about London, but not right now, because I am sad, this morning and my heart, it's a little bit broken. They're my band, you know? And I hope they come back, I HOPE they come back, but I want them to be around now. ♥
harborshore: (victory is mine)
It's okay to post twice if the second time is also a fic, right? Ahem. This is, if possible, even sillier than the last one. Pure cotton candy fluff. ♥

Title: Make You Feel
Pairing(s): Z/girl!Spencer
Rating: PG
Warnings: None.
Word count: 1200
Summary: Z was thinking about a girl. HS AU.
A/N Apparently I'm writing [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski silly stories instead of writing my own big bang. But she deserves them! She wrote somewhere over 8000 words on her big bang this weekend, because she's awesome like that.

Make You Feel )
harborshore: (on stage)
First present of two for [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski, who has added 5730 words to her big bang this weekend. ♥

Title: Lost The Plot
Summary: Z's band had been replaced by aliens. That was the only plausible explanation.
Word count: 570
Notes: A silly ficlet for [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski and [livejournal.com profile] kickingrad (because she thought of the idea first).

Title: Every Word Rang True
Pairing(s): Z/Charlotte
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None.
Word count: 1020
Summary: Z didn't stop talking to Charlotte when she left the band. She couldn't. Slight AU (Z isn't dating Ryan).
A/NFor the Sex Is Not The Enemy Challenge. Prompt: this picture. This is the version of Z and Charlotte with less angst. (It's possible I'm also working on the other version.) The title is from "Tangled Up in Blue" by Bob Dylan and this is also partly for [livejournal.com profile] redbrickrose, who wanted it first.

You know when you're having a shitty night and sometimes the universe provides you with things you need?

BRENDON ACTUAL URIE.

This time around, I felt I had to step up and take the reins lyrically. It’s something I wasn’t very well practiced in, so I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to write about—what would interest me, what would be fun. So there are moments on the record—lyrical moments—where they’re very, very honest, very straightforward. And there are also songs that we’ve always loved doing, that are very storytelling and fantastical. It doesn’t limit itself to straightforward honesty. There are a lot of fun little lyrical moments. It’s fun for us to mess around with verbiage, I guess.

Also, The Like took some pictures. (All from here.)

in which Z and Annie look like they're about to make out, Laena is beautiful, and Z meets an elephant. in short, everything is awesome. )

[livejournal.com profile] no_tags reveal!

Um, as always, I bring shocking news. I wrote All That's Best of Dark and Bright, which, yes, it has girls and quiet moments of emotional intensity and an authoritarian regime and magic. I'm not predictable. *grins*

Title: All That's Best of Dark and Bright
Pairing/Prompt: 57, The Like (gen or any pairing--Z/Tennessee), college shenanigans OR Brendon/Spencer, supernatural creatures.
Summary: Z had been waiting for months. A story of werewolves, love, and the beginnings of rebellion.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None besides implied violence.
Word count: 1100
Notes: It appears I wrote both the prompts. Kind of. A little bit. The title is Byron's.

Darling flist, it's the day after Christmas for me and actual Christmas for many of you: hi. I hope you're having a good day whether or not you celebrate, and I just wanted to say hi and love and stuff. Thanks for sticking around through what was a fairly tough year in many ways (though awesome in so many others). More on this later.

Right now I just want to rec two stories that lovely people wrote for me:

The First Time... is my Yuletide, and it's Bliss and Pash from Whip It, which, holy shit, have I ever said how much I love that movie? I LOVE THAT MOVIE. And this fic nails Bliss and her awkwardnesses and her certainties and her eventually-gets-everything-right so well, it made me absolutely super-happy. GO READ.

Then there's the Bandom Christmas challenge one, which, oh. It's To Wait For Love with Annie and Z and Z, oh, this Z is so perfect. She's quirky and getting steadier and she's figuring herself and her feelings out and I just--it's like you know me or something, dearest author. Thank you.

So go read about girls falling in love, you know, in between opening gifts and eating too much food or staring at the snow (or the flood, in one case). I'm going to go watch Mamma Mia with my family and SING ALONG TO EVERY SONG. Because we're dorks like that. And then I will crash; holy shit, how am I still this tired?
harborshore: (tara)
Tonight, I have rewritten the introduction to my thesis so that it accurately reflects what it is about (and in the process, things became very clear in my head in a beautifully structured way). I might be feeling fairly pleased with myself at the moment.

Now, though, I am drinking beer, working on old ficlet prompts and contemplating stories, the kinds I like to tell. So if you're around and feel like it, give me two characters, a pairing or a friendship, some kind of 'first' or realization, and a setting. Bonus points for rare pairings, weird inclusions of magic, wacky AUs or crossovers, etc. I will do five or six or so. ♥

(And yes, I realize the fic I just posted also fits this. I did say the kinds of stories I like to tell. *grins*)

Fandoms/bands: The Like, PATD, The Young Veins (but probably not the new members, they're named Andy and Nick and--Nick? right?), FOB, BTVS, Veronica Mars, DCU, potentially something else that I have forgotten.
harborshore: (magic)
Tonight is Midsummer Night's Eve. I realize I haven't yet finished the female characters prompts, but I promise I will (part of the problem is that I want to write epics for every one of those prompts, so I'm trying to slash them down to a manageable size--telling part of the story, if you will) and I couldn't let tonight go by without doing this. It's my favorite holiday, the shortest night of the year (technically that was on Monday, but hey), and it comes with dancing and the sea and food and magic.

So prompt me, dearlings. A pairing or gen (give me a character, then), a fandom (The Like, Bob and Brian, Veronica Mars, the Bats (DCU), BTVS, the Panic boys, Greta, Kitty and Lyn-Z...), and a quote from A Midsummer Night's Dream. They'll be my reward come Monday when I'm allowed to think about other things again.

And now I am off! An island awaits. ♥
harborshore: (competence kink)
It's [livejournal.com profile] fictionalaspect's birthday! Dearest cowriter, light of my life, I hope you have the day you want today. I believe I've told you before that I think you're marvelously talented, that it's ridiculously easy to write with you, that you make me kind of happy just in general too, not just because you agree that rare pairings can be the most fun ever. I just love the way you think, loveling, and I love how kind you are, and I love that I found you. ♥ Anyway. You'll never guess what I wrote you--no, you totally will. I hope you like, a little bit. All my love, yeah?

Title: Why Wait Any Longer
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: Annie/Laena
Summary: Annie pines. High School AU, an outtake from an, um, bigger verse. Also, sort of a barista!AU with awkward girls instead of boys.
Warnings: None, really.
Word Count: 2800
Disclaimer: This particular incarnation of The Like did not go to school together, ergo, this story did not really happen.
Author's Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] fictionalaspect on her birthday. ♥, darling, you are a joy, and I hope this is a little bit like how you imagined it back when you first told me to write it. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] blindmouse for looking it over for me and fixing my silliness. The title is from Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay."

Why Wait Any Longer )
harborshore: (tiltchin)
So it's [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski's birthday. Most of you don't know this, but Tora was basically my second friend on livejournal, or something like that (we met because I started telling her a story about Bob kidnapping his poor, stressed manager and taking him on a road trip to the Grand Canyon--yes, that story), and she was the third one I met in real life. You guys, she is so wonderful. Hilarious (and she has the best smile) and tiny and great and we spent an afternoon at Foyle's talking about Bob/Brian porn and scandalizing the poor gentleman next to us--and soon I will see her again! I am of the excitement.

This is my poor, paltry offering for her birthday--it is so silly, so silly, but you know how ridiculous I am, darling, and I hope you like it. It's been--you are a good part of why my life is just a little better these days. All the love ever, yeah? ♥

Title: Got That Crazy Rhythm
Rating: PG-13
Summary: High School AU. Bob hates Brian Schechter. No, she really does.
Pairing: Bob/Brian. Background Z/Tennessee and Brendon/Jepha.
Warnings: None, really. Teenagers and mucking about with everyone's ages, that's about it.
Word Count: 1750
Disclaimer: Bob Bryar is not a girl, nor did he go to high school with Brian Schechter or Z Berg.
Author's Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski on her birthday. ♥, darling, this is the silliest thing, but I do hope you like it just a little bit. The title is from Dylan's "Had a Dream About You, Baby."

Got That Crazy Rhythm )
harborshore: (fucksobeautiful)
So it's been a while since I did one of these. I'm working on a number of original fic prompts that are making me very, very happy, but I also feel like writing short things. So. This month is female characters month, I've decided (partly because I signed up for ladiesbigbang, partly just because, you know).

Guidelines for prompt: Leave me a female character, note if you want gen or femmeslash, and a prompt, preferably a crossover or magical scenario but ordinary ones are fine too. So, for instance: Z had no idea what made her knock on the door of that blue telephone box. Or: Veronica Mars was tired of being woken up in the middle of the night to go deal with things the local Sheriff's office couldn't handle, but this time the case was a little more challenging (aliens are not Neptune standard, even if it might sometimes seem that way).

No genderswap this time, please, and no repeats of characters (unless it's one prompt that is Lyn-Z/Stephanie Brown and one that is Lyn-Z gen or something along those lines). Fandoms I'm okay to write: MSI, The Like, Greta Salpeter, other bandom ladies, Leverage, BTVS, DCU, Veronica Mars, the other usual suspects (you're welcome to try asking for someone else if you think I'm capable).
harborshore: (saving the world)
*peers out from under her thesis-shaped rock* So I hear there's a volcano? In Iceland? Doing things? This is nuts, you guys. It doesn't seem like anyone has died, and I hope I haven't gotten that wrong. All planes are canceled in Stockholm and the air space is closed, because apparently it's incredibly dangerous to fly through volcanic ash. Here's hoping it stops soon, because danger and chaos and the ashes being potentially lethal for people who are seriously ill and they're coming right at us, guys, they're already over Sweden. CRAZY. Also, I'm supposed to leave for the US in a month and I want to see my little sister graduate. It's an extremely minor concern in the grand scheme of things, but I love my sister a lot and I want to be there. And compared to the Haiti earthquake and the Chile one, this is decidedly minor. Obviously. Still, a little nuts.

So. I would like to offer ficlets, because I want to think about other things. I'm going to do the first five prompts I like, which may or may not be the first five that appear, because what I can write right now is a little limited.

Theme: post- or pre-apocalyptic scenarios WITH HOPE. Interpret that as you will. Pairings or gen are fine. Bands/fandoms I can write: Mikey, FOB, Bob and Brian (they're a subset of fandom, right?), The Like, Panic/The Young Veins (even if my Jon voice is nonexistent), MSI, others possibly. I can also do Veronica Mars, DCU or BTVS, though the last two feel like cheating since it's not like they've never done the apocalypse thing before.

Prompt away!

ETA: I am done! Five, er, seven ficlets.
harborshore: (something more)
You, oh Mik. Happy Birthday. I hope it was every bit as great as you deserve, darling girl, because you deserve all the good things ever. I'm stupidly sleepy after yesterday's ordeal, but I couldn't let today go by without saying anything.

See, you were one of the first people I found, on here. I wrote you a dumb little ficlet and you friended me and we kept talking and talking. You've sent me letters that never fail to arrive exactly at the opportune moment, as my favorite pirate captain would put it, and you've written me stories, and you--Anne of Green Gables would call it kindred spirits, you know? Which is remarkable and I feel so lucky that I found you. Your stories, the way you think, the way you are. So much love.

Due to Recent Events, the story I'm writing for you isn't quite finished, but it includes things I think you will like, and I wish it was done so I could give it to you properly. Instead, well.

and in the end the love you make is equal to )
harborshore: (zoid)
It only took me twelve days...and now I'm really tempted to come up with a wretched pun on partridges in pear trees. I fear I am far too sleepy, though.

Here, darlings, the ficlets--there are superheroes, stories about music, awkward high school AUs, rare pairings, gen, lots of alwaysagirl, gen, Gotham City, and random crossovers. In order, we have the following:

The Right Music, Z/Tennessee, for [livejournal.com profile] softlyforgotten. Z's pretty sure it's her turn to be brave.

One More Time With Feeling, girl!Bob/girl!Brian, also for [livejournal.com profile] softlyforgotten (the trick is to leave me a first prompt and then have the second one be my favorite pairing in all the land). Bob glows when she plays.

I Should Refuse You, Bob/Mikey/Alicia, for [livejournal.com profile] fleurdeliser. Bob isn't used to having epiphanies in the kitchen.

Ready To Go Anywhere, Mikey/Ray, for [livejournal.com profile] antihysteric. Ray has a crush. Frank knows about it.

Temptin' You To Defy It, Lyn-Z/Z Berg, for [livejournal.com profile] unlurkster. This is set in a verse where Z and Lyn-Z go to the same high school, and Z sings in Kitty and Lyn-Z's band. She also happens to be dating Lyn-Z, and prom is coming up.

Should I Wait?, Frank/Gerard, for [livejournal.com profile] ciel_vert. Frank is definitely thinking too much about that one time when Gerard kissed him and they weren't on stage.

In Time, Patrick and William gen, for [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv. Patrick isn't sure how to do this coming out thing.

Not Afraid To Look At Her, possible future girl!Bob/Frank, for [livejournal.com profile] jrho. Bob is not down with this shit.

Cast Your Dancing Spell My Way, Z and girl!Ryan, for [livejournal.com profile] blindmouse. When Ryan woke up, she'd figured it out. Superpowers!au.

Take The Dark Out Of The Nighttime, Bob/Gerard/Lyn-Z, for [livejournal.com profile] crowgirl13. More of the Bob/Gerard/Lyn-Z in Gotham AU; more epiphanies for Bob.

Stay While The Night Is Still Ahead, girl!Brendon/girl!Spencer, for [livejournal.com profile] bayleaf. Set in the same verse as the Z-and-Ryan one above. Spencer wants Brendon to stay.

Not Alone In The Dark, Kon/Veronica Mars, DCU/Veronica Mars crossover for [livejournal.com profile] jamjar. Kon has been at Neptune High for a while now, but it's kind of lonely.

Stuck Inside A Mobile, Jon and Tom gen (and a random AU), for [livejournal.com profile] halflinen. And off they go, down the rabbit hole...
harborshore: (BFF)
Title: Not That Hard To Find
Pairings: Gen, implied Tennessee/Z and unrequited Ryan/girl!Spencer.
Word Count; 2712
Warnings: None
Summary: A day in the life, post-split. Wherein Ryan gets to dispense Very Important Advice, cuddle, and then has to go look for his best friend.

A/N: This one is for [livejournal.com profile] blindmouse, because she says things that make me think about characterization (which in its turn makes me write Ryan!fic, apparently) and, well. Merry Christmas, two weeks early. ♥, darling, I really hope you like it.

This was looked over by [livejournal.com profile] softlyforgotten, [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski, and [livejournal.com profile] colouredmango, because it's possible I was a little nervous about writing a new band. If there are any remaining problems, it is most certainly not their fault. The title belongs to Bob Dylan and comes from the song "If You See Her, Say Hello."

Most people don't know this, but Ryan likes to fix things. )
