Tonight I went for a walk with dad, about an hour before the sunset. People were playing soccer and volleyball on the field near where we live, and the all-girl team was winning the volleyball game (much like it seems the only serious contenders in the Way-family croquet match was Alicia and Lyn-Z).

We crossed the road and sat down on the cliff, watching as the light settled over the grass and the skyline. Like being in a city and not, at once.

Then we saw hot-air balloons. Four of them, to be exact. They were coming closer, hovering over the trees, and it was beautiful, absolutely stunning. But what was initially looking like a gorgeous sunset, complete with balloons (like a movie), turned into a comedy of errors pretty soon, with some pretty scary moments.

See, the first balloon meant to go down right in front of us. Only at the last second, there was a gust of wind and it lifted again, almost ending up in the middle of the road. However, the driver managed to get it airborne again, so that it reached the field on the other side of the road, where it bounce-bounce-bounced three times before landing on its side.

The second balloon almost ran into the only building in this field, but somehow swerved and executed a fairly smooth landing, swaying with the wind before the people (and the air) were let out.

The fourth balloon was the impressive one. It was the furthest away, and we saw it start going down where we know there are no fields large enough to comfortably land on. We gulped a little, but it started rising again after being completely out of sight beyond the trees. There was barely any wind at this point, so it stood practically still in the air for about ten minutes before it started coming closer to our field. It came down fast, then, but slowed enough just before touching down that the balloon barely swayed at all. Incredibly graceful, somehow, and a fantastic thing to get to see.

On the way back, we ended up right below a kestrel, hovering in the air, preparing for a dive. Dad said he felt like it was about to dive at us, and I agreed, but we still didn't move.

Now, I'm waiting for the joint aches to subside (modern medicine is sometimes marvelous) and looking at the dark outside. We can't see the stars, yet, but the closer we get to winter, the clearer they'll become.

I'd steal the death match meme, except I'm feeling sweet and cozy tonight. I'd rather talk about cuddling.

If you feel like it, give me two characters, bandom (MCR or MSI), DCU (Birds of Prey, the Bats (especially the ladies)), and Buffy, and I'll tell you about them cuddling. Wacky crossovers are totally okay, though please don't give me Bob and Batman.

Now I want to rewrite, say, To Catch a Thief with them. Because Chantal as Grace Kelly, yes?

Oh, thank you! It made me pretty happy to write about them, too. :)

She's a darling, seriously.

It would also involve Jimmy as Cary Grant, which, um. *cue helpless laughter* But you should watch that movie, I mean really. It's FANTASTIC.

Fun factoid: my great aunt dated Cary Grant for a while!

There are so many old movies, classics, that I've never seen. I need to remedy that.

"Not today, Mikeyway." Pete's voice is muffled behind the curtain.

Mikey sighs. He pokes at the bunk curtain, making it dent inwards a little, and says, "But I have this song I want you to listen to."

He can hear Pete move again, draw a shaky breath, and then say "Go away."

Mikey thinks about Gerard, home from college at 20, locking himself inside the basement and shouting at anyone who tried to go inside. He's kind of amused that his brother is the person who taught him the coping mechanisms that work for his thing with Pete, but whatever. Dramatic people are dramatic people. Maybe it's a lyricist thing.

"I'm gonna, like, come in, okay?" And he does, crawling into the bunk with Pete, who makes a noise of surprise and then scrambles out of the way.

Pete wipes at his face. "Look, I told you--"

"I know, you told me. Come on--" Mikey squirms around and digs his Ipod out of his pocket, giving Pete one of the earbuds. "I just want you to listen to this song."

He keeps his face steady, looking at Pete, and waits.

Pete shakes his head. "What am I gonna do with you, Mikeyway?" he says, in a voice that's a little less shaky, and he takes the headphone.

Mikey smiles. "You don't have to do anything with me," and hits play.

Pete doesn't say anything for a while, and they both listen to the song. It has a really fucking awesome bass line, which is why Mikey chose it. He waits until Pete notices and starts smiling, before he carefully smooths Pete's bangs away from his forehead.

Pete pushes into the touch and squirms closer to Mikey.

"What if I want to?" he whispers.

"Want to what?" Mikey answers, even though he knows.

"What if I want to do something with you, Mikeyway?"

Mikey smiles. That's more like it. "Eh, I don't know," he says, trying for noncommittal and really not getting there.

Pete grins in return, this wild, unrestrained thing, and Mikey's chest hurts for a second. This, right here, fuck. He closes his eyes and leans into the kiss. He doesn't think about the fall.

YOU ARE MY FAVORITE PERSON IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, OH GOD. ♥_____♥

Oh, Gerard taught Mikey how to deal with crazy drama queens, that is so wonderful! It shall forever be stored away in my truly embarrassingly ginormous Pete/Mikey tinhat, oh man. I have such an epic weak spot for comforting cuddles, and oh, the hinted doooom makes it hurt so right ;__; Oh Mikey, Oh Pete. Be better off as lovers and not the other way around foreverrrrrr.

Did I ever tell you what a wonderful writer you are? Seriously, so amazing. You keep punching me in the chest with your words and sentences and shit, and I keep loving it and wanting more. I would like to crawl into your pocket and live there forever. I would be so close to your boobs, assuming it's your shirt pocket!

It's Wednesday when Bob comes home from the club where he works and finds Lyn-Z and Gerard sitting at the kitchen table, both of them pale and shaky.

"What happened?" he demands, because he hasn't seen Gerard this overwhelmed since his brother had the breakdown, and he's never seen Lyn look like this.

Lyn-Z chokes out a laugh and turns over one of her hands. It's--it's glowing. What the hell.

"What the hell?"

"I," she says carefully, moving her hand around and moving the light with it, "I think I had a metagene I didn't know about."

Bob sits down, taking her hand and trying to catch the light. It's warm but he can slide his fingers right through it.

"I don't get it," he says, "what is it?"

"We were thinking it's that she manipulates the air, somehow," Gerard offers. "Like, generating energy? Making something out of it?"

Lyn-Z laughs again, watching the light dance over her fingertips. "My mama always said I had too much energy."

"Damn." Bob's having a little trouble articulating his emotions here. "I mean--damn."

"I know," Gerard says. "Fuck, I know."

Lyn-Z snorts. "Hey, I believe I'm the one spontaneously generating light, here. Don't I get to do the angsting?"

They both apologize, but truth is Bob is still kind of shocked. Not that she wasn't always bright, she and Gerard--he feels sappy as fuck thinking it, but they glow. He just never expected it to be literally.

You say such darling things and it makes me really happy. In short, &YOU;, for real.

Mikey/Pete makes me very heart-clenchy right now, for some reason. It hurts so good, oh man. And that song is currently my personal heartache theme song, but we shall not dwell on my emo.

And you're too good to me, seriously--thank you thank you, dearest, I'm mopey and tired and reading this made me all warm and happy. (And you're so very welcome to come live in my pocket. *leers*) ♥

I adore wacky random crossovers and am saddened by how rare they are, so I love getting the chance to write them. Even if the prompt made me go OH GOD and wail for a bit, because, seriously, a wee bit difficult. But then I had fun. *grins*

Also, thank you so much for all your lovely comments--they made my day yesterday, it was really really nice. ♥ And this one is secretly my favorite, well, this one and the Pete/Mikey, so it's extra-specially fun to see that other people liked it.

Oh man, I'm going to try and outline this story soonish, can I email you once I've done that? I tend to need to tell a story at someone in order to write it.

And pining is my favorite. But perhaps that is pretty clear. ♥
