there is a point where it just all becomes hysterically funny

In the continuing saga of "How My Body Hates Me: Let Me Count The Ways," I'm pretty sure I have the flu on top of my Mystery virus right now. Possibly it's a horrendous version of my sister's mild cold, but the joint aches and headache are horribly suggestive. I guess I will know in the morning.

But in the meantime, because I could use a distraction from the joint aches and the possibility of imminent swine flu, you lot should come ask me things. Like, we could do that meme that's been going around again:

Ask me for my top 5 anything: fandoms, ice cream flavours, cartoon moments, women in my fandoms, OTPs, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs, ANYTHING.

And if you like, I'll ask you a top 5 in the comments!

[identity profile] jubella.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, what are you top 5 books? Or who are your top 5 favorite women in history?

[identity profile] harborshore.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Top 5 books--OH GOD. UNPOSSIBLE. Um, five books I like a lot that are all different genres are:

1. The Interpreter of Maladies, Jhumpa Lahiri.
2. Ronia, the Robber's Daughter, Astrid Lindgren.
3. Women and Apple Trees, Moa Martinsson.
4. Against Forgetting, edited by Carolyn Forche.
5. Wanderlust, Rebecca Solnit.

And I answered that other one last time I did this meme, so, hey, I'm way too out of it for html: here. Also it has not changed. *grins*

on *top* of the mystery virus? ugh, that's terrible. Try to get some rest? :(

Um, how about top five otps, or top five MCR canon moments, or top five comfort foods? Or you could do all three! :D (I love asking people questions, hee.)
ext_3762: girl reading outside in sunshine (come here)

[identity profile] harborshore.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! It's a tragedy of epic proportions. Or a farce. I think I'm going with farce.

Top 5 OTPs in canon:

1. Dick/Babs
2. Booth/Bones
3. Willow/Tara
4. Veronica/Logan
5. Ronia/Birk

Top 5 non-canon OTPs:

1. Babs/Dinah
2. Veronica/Mac (or Veronica/Weevil)
3. Bob/Brian
4. Steph/Cass
5. Lyn-Z/girl!Spencer

I'm reasonably sure I answered the MCR one the last time I did this--the only one I remember is C-H-O-R-U-S and "Spit in their motherfucking faces!" and those remain true.

Top 5 comfort foods:

1. Chocolate (in all forms, but especially mom's chocolate hazelnut cookies).
2. Soup, especially split pea soup.
3. Tea and a piece of toast with a hard-boiled egg on it plus a particular Swedish sandwich spread that everyone else thinks smells disgusting.
4. Fish the way mom makes it.
5. Dad's lasagna.

You should tell me your top 5 songs for feeling awesome. :D

[identity profile] harborshore.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooooh.

1. Narnia (BEFORE the seventh book).
2. Discworld, especially if I can spend a month with Susan.
3. Chrestomanci castle.
4. Barrayar, but I don't want to stay long, I just want to meet Cordelia.
5. Avalon or Nangijala, but not until I die.

I am cheating, but only a little.

1. "yes, the dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands, with all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves, let me forget about today until tomorrow..."
2. "I need something strong to distract my mind, I'm gonna look at you 'til my eyes go blind"
3. The entirety of "Visions of Johanna."
4. "Shine with all the untold, hold the light given onto you."
5. "My baby's looking so damn pretty with those anxious eyes, rain-speckled hair, my ring to wear"
6. "Hold on, one more time with feeling, try it again, breathing's just a rhythm, say it in your mind until you know that the words are right: this is why we fight."

And, oh, yay! Hmm. I have this rare pairing problem, you might have heard of it...

5 ways girl!Bob and Lyn-Z first kissed, is that doable?

*makes pathetic eyes at you* Tora, this is ridiculous. I want tea and snuggles, stat.

On that note:

1. I would like to be in a big comfortable bed with my cat and someone who would snuggle with me even if I had swine flu. I do have my cat here, which is nice, but my bed is way too small and I have no one to snuggle with.
2. Hmm, if I was not sick, a cabin in the woods with some fun people and free time to do all the writing and skiing I want.
3. The beach. Not even the beach in summer, just the beach. I have a thing for the ocean.
4. Portland, because I want another bookstore vacation.
5. Actually, I want to take a road trip around the UK. But now is most emphatically not the time to do it.

1. Tiffany Aching
2. Martha Jones (SHE COUNTS)

5. Lucifer in Paradise Lost

Ick, sinus infections, ugh.

Oh man. Hmm.

1. That time a group of soldiers going through basic training camped out on our lawn (or rather, the lawn of my grandparents' summer house). I was three and thought it was Most Exciting.
2. Playing pretend when we lived in the archipelago (that one is many times rather than just one).
3. Learning to swim.
4. When my brother was born in our parents' bed and me and my sister got to eat all the ice cream we wanted.
5. Reading all the books in the WORLD.

Top 5 songs for a rainy day! Top 5 favourite smells! Top 5 favourite little-details-included-in-stories that you love to see in fic!

(ask away, should you wish :D)
ext_3762: girl reading outside in sunshine (come here)

[identity profile] harborshore.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, it's sunny outside and my cat is curled up next to me and my bed is clean and comfortable--things could be worse. Also, my head doesn't hurt as long as I don't move it? :D? ♥

Top 5 songs for a rainy day:

1. Here Comes The Sun
2. Shine, Vienna Teng
3. One More Time With Feeling, Regina Spektor
Baby Can I Hold You,Tracy Chapman
5. Make You Feel My Love, Adele singing Bob Dylan

Top 5 smells:

1. Cinnamon rolls
2. Lasagna
3. Jasmine tea
4. Clean clothes
5. The sea (which should probably be number 1)

Top 5 favourite little-details-included-in-stories that I love to see in fic:

1. Tiny touches that do exactly what they're meant to, because both of the people involved know each other really well (a hand on someone's wrist to calm them down, knowing how to tickle someone, etc.)
2. Cuddling! Wait, that's practically a trope. How about crawling into bed with your best friend or brother or significant other and knowing how to hold them to make you or them feel better?
3. Characterization in the tiny things, like how someone wears their hat or doesn't tie their shoelaces or picks at scabs or...
4. I love it when an AU is revealed in said tiny details. Like, it's not immediately obvious that the world is different, except wait, what's up with that phone, and how does that work, and why is there a random talking cat? Like the beginning of the first Harry Potter book.
5. The hottest thing in the universe is when stories include tiny touches after sex that reveal to the person being touched and to the reader that the person doing the touching figured out exactly how to turn the other person on. Except it doesn't go back to them having sex. Hnnnnngh.

Ooooh, questions. Top 5 songs for being furious, Top 5 artists (that is HARD, feel free to pick a particular medium or genre or something), Top 5 kinds of stories to write?

1. Good soccer
2. The pole vault
3. Figure skating
4. High jump
5. Gymnastics

Top 5 pieces of clothing:

1. The grey cardigan my sister got me for Christmas, which is soft and comfortable AND looks fantastic.
2. My multi-colored striped knee socks.
3. The blue pajama pants that remain the only thing I've ever bought at Victoria's Secret.
4. My black armwarmers (though I've tragically lost one of them)
5. My winter coat (it was very cold here until yesterday)

[identity profile] harborshore.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
*clings* Ridiculousness, this health business.

You ask awesome questions! :D

1. The line "I am the fire burning,"in "Release Me."
2. The moment when Regina Spektor starts the chorus in "One More Time With Feeling," especially when she's singing it live.
3. The third verse of "Is Your Love In Vain?" because it's like he lets himself fall at last after two verses of doubt.
4. The moment in "City Hall" when you realize it's two women getting married. (Otherwise known as "When Vee started bawling on the subway.")
5. "Är ljus, allas ögon då stråla som bäst," in my favorite Swedish Christmas song.

Top 5 books/bands/movies/whatever I think there should be a fandom for:

1. I wish there was a fandom where people just wrote Shakespeare adaptations for other fandoms. Like, there are a few, but I want lots and lots and lots.
2. The Tiffany Aching books.
3. Can there be a Sappho fandom? With stories written based on the poems? Or perhaps a ficathon?
4. Ronia, the Robber's Daughter!
5. Piano-playing women like Vienna Teng and Regina Spektor.
