I went to mom's choir's Christmas concert today, and cried my way through at least six of the songs because, oh, one of the choir members did a sign language interpretation of "Silent Night" and one more song, and I can't get over her face, how expressive she was and how she was the very incarnation of joy and it was so beautiful, I can't adequately convey how beautiful it was. I'd never have thought you could recreate music with your hands, but she did. And I really liked the inclusiveness, obviously.

(Side note: when I was younger, they thought my hearing problem would get worse and I would have to learn sign language. It didn't, it went away instead and I put my hearing aids away at twelve, but I still--sign language is high on my list of things I want to learn.)

I feel like writing short-short things, so I thought I'd do one of these. It's been a while. I'll do the first five or six, depending on if my Yuletide grabs me again.

Prompt: a pairing, an AU or a crossover and a first kiss. Fandoms: BTVS, Panic, The Like, Bob, Brian, Mikey Way, Veronica Mars, DCU, Vampire Diaries, etc. You lot know what I write.

"Augh." Bob turns away from the window in disgust. He's so goddamn sick of snow, and now he has to walk home from school in a storm because his mom can't pick him up and only seniors are allowed to drive themselves--shit, this sucks.

He's about halfway home when another gust of wind smacks him in the face and he's just done. So he goes into the Starbucks even though he doesn't have the money to pay for a coffee right now. They won't throw him out in a storm, right?

There's only one more person in there; Bob recognizes Mikeyway from school and goes a little red. Mikey's nice. They talk sometimes. (Mikey's pretty much the only reason math is bearable.)

Mikey turns and sees him and smiles that half-smile of his, which. Yeah. Bob's a bit stupid about that smile.

"Hey," he manages.

Mikey nods and says something to the barista, and then he turns back to Bob.

"Hey," he says.

"Some storm, huh?" Bob hates himself. The weather?

"It's practically apocalyptical," Mikey says, and goes to get his drink. His drinks? Maybe he's started to mainline coffee now. No, he's holding one of them out to Bob, who takes it, surprised.

"Hot chocolate?" he says when he feels the smell.

"You looked cold," Mikey says, and goes a little red, too. And then it looks like he steels himself before leaning in and kissing Bob's cheek. "Also I just wanted to, you know."

"Me too," Bob manages. "Me totally too."

Mikey thinks basketball is a stupid sport. He wouldn't tell Wallace that, sure, but he's pretty over the whole idea of shooting hoops. Except that when Wallace makes a three-pointer and looks really pleased, it makes Mikey want to smile. (He accidentally told Gabe that and got laughed out of the dorm. Then he told Pete, who promptly bought Mikey a really orange jersey. Which he's not wearing.)

After the game, he sticks around. Wallace and him, it's not a thing, it's really not, except that Veronica seems to think it is, which must mean something. Or might mean something.

Wallace comes over to say hi when his adoring fans have gone away. Mikey finishes replying to Pete's texted demand for dtls, mikeyway, ineed with an emphatic NO and looks up.

"Hey yourself," he says. Then, because it seems to be something you say, and Wallace really was, "you were pretty great out there."

Wallace grins. "Nah, you should've seen me last week."

Maybe Mikey should have, but he's pretty sure he was sleeping off last night when Wallace had the Saturday morning game.

"Anyway, thanks for coming," Wallace says.

"Sure," Mikey says. He's thinking he might go for it when Wallace is first to lean in. It's been a long time since Mikey didn't want to look away at all, so he keeps his eyes open.

Veronica makes fun of them all the way back to the dorm, but Mikey's pretty sure it's done with love.

That asshole is at the show. Bob can feel him looking from the back of the crowd, which is why he knows who it is even before he turns; most people are there to watch the band, not gawk at the sound guy.

He finds him later at the bar.

"The band sounds good," Tim says, sliding a beer over to Bob. Unspoken: the drummer is shit, and you're better. Bob has always known how to read Tim.

"Thanks," Bob says. What he doesn't say: it's been two years, dickhead. But thanks for resurfacing now, it's good to have friends. Tim probably gets that without him saying it. Probably.

"You missed me, huh?" Yeah, Tim gets it.

"Nah," Bob says. "You're way too uppity, it gets a man down."

Tim smirks. He's good at that. The first time Bob met him, at some kind of to-do for meta-powered high-school kids who didn't want to be superheroes; he'd been pretending to be a telepath from old-money New England. The evening had ended with them using Bob's newfound pyrotechnical ability to start fires all over, and Bob was pretty sure Tim had been severely reprimanded for that. It had been the beginning of a pretty beautiful friendship, though.

Then Tim shakes himself, and looks at Bob properly. "I did miss you," he says, and sounds very honest for Tim. "I--" and he reaches out, touching at Bob's jaw.

Bob swallows. "Really?" Are we finally doing this? Are we--

Tim kisses him. I guess we are.

"You've done that before!" Damon says accusingly.

Mikey's mouth quirks. "I have," is all he says.

Damon has the feeling Mikey's making fun of him; this kid never says what he's thinking, but Damon's starting to be able to read the minute variations in his face after nearly a week of--Damon refuses to call them dates, but hanging out. Up until this moment, Damon felt pretty proud of his restraint (he's grown as a person, he doesn't have to go straight to the sex. Or the kissing.).

But on the other hand, that hardly matters. "So I could do that again?" he asks, because Elena has been explaining the concept of consent in great detail, aided by Stefan. Also, they both said they'd castrate him if he ever did to anyone else what he did to Caroline, and it's just easier to do as he's told at least sometimes. Just in order to keep outraged lectures to a minimum, you understand.

Mikey smirks and straddles Damon on the couch. "Yes," he says, and leans in, kissing Damon and getting his hands into Damon's hair in a way that kind of makes Damon want to purr. Oh, this kid is good.

Veronica isn't thinking when she does it. She's briefing Logan on the case (she's pulled him in as an outside resource, or as he put it when she asked, an "expert on the rich and the notorious") when she leans in (he's sitting, she's standing) and kisses him.

He blinks when she pulls away. "Did that really happen? Because I don't know if--"

She can't help herself, she kisses him again, and then pulls back, touching his mouth with a finger to keep him quiet for just a second while she thinks. "Shhh," she says.

He keeps quiet, because Logan sometimes listens to her.

"I don't know, I just--"

"Do you have to know?" he says, looking like a lot depends on the answer.

"I just want," she says.

"Just for now?" He's keeping his face blank.

For now, for next week, for-- She's not going there even in her head yet. "I don't know," she admits.

"I thought the FBI knew everything, isn't that in their job description?" He's smiling.

"Sometimes we're clueless," she says.

"I don't mind," he says, reaching out for her again. She takes his hand and lets herself be pulled in and holds on in return. She doesn't think she's letting go this time.

CHEATER. You're writing that, don't think I've forgotten. But in a DIFFERENT AU where Lyn-Z is working on a mural with a bunch of neighborhood kids (she's an art teacher and an artist) and Spencer's a part-time waitress at a local diner while working her way through law school and drumming on the weekends, okay:

"You really like those waffles, huh?" Spencer's leaning on the table, looking amused.

Lyn-Z only splutters a little (which is a real improvement compared to the first time Spencer talked to her, okay) and wipes her mouth off before replying: "I do, yes." They're not just good, they're practically celestial, because the cook here's some kind of fucking genius. Also, powdered sugar is the best, Lyn-Z feels.

All of which Spencer knows, because this is not the first time they've talked about the waffles here.

"It's nice," Spencer says. "Bob feels very validated when I come back and tell him about the pretty artists who come in and eat their waffles like they're made at the Royal What's-It Institute of Breakfast Food or something."

Lyn-Z is kind of fixating on the "pretty" in that sentence and the way that Spencer's cheeks are a little red now.

"You think I'm pretty?" she asks, because she sucks at being subtle, so it's not worth trying.

Spencer looks at her and something in Lyn-Z's face must be encouraging, because she grins.

"I do," she says simply. "And seriously talented, and--" she walks over to Lyn-Z's table, "you have some powdered sugar here," she touches Lyn-Z's mouth. "It's driving me crazy." She leans in and kisses Lyn-Z real quick, like she wants to but she doesn't want to push. Lyn-Z would like her to push, so she holds on to Spencer, doesn't let her back away.

"You can keep doing that," she says.

Spencer's eyes are bright. "I'm working," she says. But she still kisses Lyn-Z again.

Cass is sure. Cass is always sure.

But she doesn't know how to ask, really, she doesn't know the words she should use to let Z read her the way Cass reads Z, the way Cass knows what Z wants. What Cass wants too.

She wonders for a second if it's wishful thinking, the way Z's shoulders are tense with please touch me, the way her hands move like they're about to reach out for Cass and then back because Z is scared. But no, Cass is right, she knows it.

Cass doesn't understand what's scaring Z; she feels like she's being just as obvious. Her fingers itch to reach out and brush Z's bangs away from her face, to curve around her jaw and tilt it up. Cass is brave, but this is hard.

"Right," Z says, and gets up, moving towards her.

Cass waits, because she thinks maybe, she thinks--

And closes her eyes because when Z is kissing her, she doesn't have to look to understand.

♥! It really is about that--it's the thing that gets to you about any performance when the artist/singer/dancer forgets themselves and just portray the message with everything they have. It's breath-taking. It was amazing. She wasn't what is thought of as conventionally beautiful by any stretch of the imagination (not that it matters, but you know what I mean) but when she started, I just--I've never seen anyone that gorgeous on stage. Hee! I feel like Mac has a thing for blond and spunky, so I hope you don't mind...

Steph kisses her in the middle of Mac explaining the concept of XHTML for the third time. It's a quick kiss, like Steph just did it without thinking, like it's normal to kiss your tutor when she's explaining how to put together web sites.

Mac splutters. "Uh, what?" she says. Intelligently. She's not used to people just kissing her like that.

Steph bites her lip. "I wanted to?" she offers, and she kind of looks like she wants to do it again. She reminds Mac of Veronica sometimes, but not right now, because it's never that easy to read Veronica.

"But, but--" Mac doesn't quite know how to say she didn't mind at all, but she's a bit concerned about Steph's failing her class and she's concerned about Steph doing it as some sort of weird thank you for the tutoring or--

Steph grins. "I'm not actually failing the class, you know, I just said that so I could get you alone."

Mac has to smile. "Really?" That's also something that doesn't happen a lot. Usually the people she tutors actually need it, no matter what happens la--best not to go there, really.

"Really," Steph says, bumping one shoulder into Mac's. "Can I do it again?"

Mac starts to nod but Steph is already kissing her.
