It's okay to post twice if the second time is also a fic, right? Ahem. This is, if possible, even sillier than the last one. Pure cotton candy fluff. ♥

Title: Make You Feel
Pairing(s): Z/girl!Spencer
Rating: PG
Warnings: None.
Word count: 1200
Summary: Z was thinking about a girl. HS AU.
A/N Apparently I'm writing [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski silly stories instead of writing my own big bang. But she deserves them! She wrote somewhere over 8000 words on her big bang this weekend, because she's awesome like that.

Z was thinking about a girl.

This was nothing new, Z had spent the last ten or twelve months thinking about girls: she fronted a band full of them, for one thing, and she'd also gotten into the habit of sneaking into the parties hosted by the UCLA Queer Alliance every now and then for some dancing and some other stuff, when someone suitable appeared.

Look, a girl had to do what a girl had to do if she wanted to get some experience in while she was in high school, even if their high school was fairly friendly (a music-and-drama academy was a decent place to be, it really was). And it was fun, the kissing. She was a big fan, or at least she was now that she'd figured out she wanted to be kissing girls.

But now Z was thinking about a specific girl, and she mostly felt like an idiot all the time, which was a lot less fun. She poked morosely at her mashed potatoes.

"What?" Tennessee sounded amused.

"You know what," Z said, because Tennessee did. Tennessee had sat through about fifteen conversations about this issue; she must know how Z was feeling.

"Ah, yes. The ever-so-lovely drummer girl. Z, I'm not certain I shouldn't be insulted; after all, if you were going to fall for a drummer, why wouldn't you fall for me?"

Z snorted. "Because I've known you for ages and oh, right, you're straight?"

"Spencer might be straight," Charlotte said without looking up from her calculus book.

"Please don't remind me," Z said. The thought made her feel a bit tragic. "She wears flannel, surely she must at least be bi?"

"What have we said about stereotypes?" Laena said, taking her customary seat at the edge.

"I know, I know," Z said. "But seriously, it would be a crime against that wonderful, wonderful flannel shirt she wore yesterday if Spencer wasn't even a little bit into girls."

"Into you, you mean," Charlotte said, still seemingly focused on her stupid math and not sounding nearly sympathetic enough.

In fact, it was quite clear that no one had any sympathy for Z. Her friends were all terribly mean.

"You're all terribly mean," she announced, "and I'm going to change schools and put together a new band and then you will never see me again ever."

"Really?" someone said behind her, and Z twisted to see who was talking.

Shit.

"Hi Spencer," she said, trying not to look at any of her friends. She was fairly sure they were laughing at her.

"Are you really changing schools?" Spencer said, looking a bit intent.

God, Z wanted to kiss her.

"No," Z said, "no, I was just--they were being mean." She was probably blushing, her cheeks felt all warm. Shit shit shit. Composure, why so elusive?

"I'm glad," Spencer said, and her cheeks were definitely a little read. "That you're not leaving, I mean, because, like, I'd miss you." She turned around and walked off and Z wanted to tell her to stop, please, and explain what she meant and--but she just sat there.

"Did you hear that?" she said, still watching Spencer, who was sitting down a couple of tables away and shaking her head at that Brendon who was always hanging out with her (lucky, lucky guy) and maybe, no, definitely blushing.

"She might actually have a chance," Tennessee said, sounding terribly surprised, and Z was going to get her back for that in a minute, but looking at Spencer was just more important than bothering with mean friends at the moment.

"You realize she's going to be even worse now," Laena said.

"Oh, lord, you're right," Tennessee said. "We must avert this. Z. Z. Promise you will prove Laena wrong?"

"Absolutely," Z said absently. She was trying to convince herself to turn back around to face her friends, but somehow she couldn't stop watching Spencer. No. Okay. She was going to do something stupid. (Sometimes that happened when she couldn't help herself or no one else knew how to stop her. She knew she was a little reckless, maybe, but it occasionally led to good things. Even if it was scary as fuck.)

Gritting her teeth, she got up and started walking towards Spencer's table. Touching Spencer's shoulder before she could get too intimidated by the whole thing, she cleared her throat.

Spencer turned around. Z was definitely not thinking "Wow, her eyes are really blue." Because that would be trite, and she was never trite.

"Hi," she said, swallowing.

"Hey," Spencer said, smiling a little.

"Um." Z said articulately. She tried again: "So, like, I don't know what you're doing after school today?"

Spencer blinked. "Um, nothing, I don't think."

Brendon muttered something that sounded like "Sure, blow off band practice, see if I care," but Z wasn't really paying attention.

"Do you want, I mean, we could go get coffee?"

"Oh." Spencer fell silent. Z was so stupid, she should have added something about her History homework so it didn't sound so much like she was asking Spencer out--"I'd love to." Wait.

"What did you say?"

"I'd love to," Spencer said. She was smiling, and if they hadn't been in the lunch room, Z probably would have kissed her. Maybe. She was feeling kind of shy all of a sudden, but pretty gloriously happy as well.

"Okay," she said, grinning right back. "I'll meet you in the parking lot?"

"Okay," Spencer echoed.

Z turned around then and walked back to her table and she didn't hear a single thing anyone said through the rest of the lunch period. Because Spencer said yes.

"Here," Tennesssee said when they were about to walk into Social Studies. She was holding out Z's lyrics notebook, which she had been borrowing to write a drum track for one of their songs. "Write us some drippy lyrics, yes? I don't think you'll be able to listen to Mr Haskins at the moment."

Z took the notebook. She raised an eyebrow at Tennessee. "You sure you want these lyrics?" She really didn't think they were going to be any good.

"Ah, we'll all make fun of you later," Tennessee said, then ruffled Z's hair. "It's good to see you happy, short stuff."

Z nodded.

"Ah, stop being sappy and let's go to class," Charlotte said, but the way she smiled told Z that she was pretty happy for Z as well. Fuck, but she loved her band, and after school she had a date with the most wonderful of girls. Sometimes life was just good. Even if it was going to be impossible to finish any of her more serious songs now, she could already tell.

Whatever, if she had to sing about sunshine and rainbows for a while she would do it. For the cause.

I'm so so glad you liked it, bb, I'm ever so pleased. *beams*

Z's more than a little reckless, which leads to bad things and good things, I think.

This made me feel SO warm inside.

I loved them being sweet and oblivious and I loved Z being called "short stuff" and just, generally, ALL of this. I loved. :D!
