Arcade Fire played in Stockholm tonight. I can't quite articulate what it--all words are insufficient right now.

It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. It was sheer, unadulterated magic, it was joyful, glorious musicianship, it was a band that just didn't stop doing more, with every song they played. It was so exactly what I needed that I'm still at a loss for what to do with myself. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I just. They played Crown of Love mid-show, and I thought, "Surely that was it, they can't do more than that, but I'm sure the rest will be lovely," and then they followed that up with a transcendent version of The Suburbs and then they played Month of May with such furious energy that I screamed myself hoarse and danced until my feet hurt. There were more songs after that, and they were so good, so good.

And then, then they dedicated Wake Up to the Norway victims and ten thousand people raised their hands to the sky and sang along. And after that, when we thought they couldn't give us anything else, Régine danced us out with The Sprawl and the world was just, it felt filled with light.

I forget sometimes how lucky I am to have seen their live show so many times over the years. They put on a fantastic show. I love seeing people who love what they do. :D

This was them at their absolute absolute best, according to people who had seen them before. I'd say you're lucky, too. I never wanted it to end.

That's what the girl I was there with said--she'd seen them once before and they were excellent then, but when The Suburbs started she turned to me and said "this is one of the most, most lovely shows I've ever seen" and we both just nodded helplessly at one another.

*hugs tight*

Wake Up was, god. He said he spent some time in Norway with Régine and then he dedicated it to the people who died and he sang and they played and I just--and then The Sprawl, all light and wonder, oh, Em. The fact that they didn't end with Wake Up, even though it was what it was, even though it was everything I needed, but gave us joy, too, to walk home in--spiritual experience is an apt expression.

There are absolutely no words, it was so amazing. I've gone to a fair amount of live shows, you know? This was in a different league entirely.

They're--I've seen a lot of live shows. I can be incredibly picky (me and Jennifer spent fifteen hilarious minutes yesterday pointing out all the ways one band had ripped off Pink Floyd except done it more depressing). But them. I--the joy, I can't even.

And that moment, oh my god. It was--i couldn't breathe, or rather, it was like breathing again after a month of all that grief.

I know I've said I love the way you write about music and how it makes you feel, so I won't again, but know I mean that. I'm glad you had such an incredible night, sweets. I'm glad they could do that for you (especially with regards to Wake Up). ♥
