XMFC snippet: only this, only us

I'm working on this post-movie AU, you see. The premise can be summed up as: "Nope, Raven doesn't leave her brother bleeding on a beach." Alternatively "Vee's attempt at consistent characterization." Or: "Erik broods; Raven and Charles are the best siblings."
Anyhow, this story is getting long and there's a lot of healing and pain and so on and so forth, and the other day I needed to give Erik and Charles a moment of something less difficult, if you will. Post-movie, no warnings.
Charles wakes up to Erik staring at him. It happens sometimes (Erik has bad dreams and though Charles shields them out, because sleep is hard as it is, Erik sometimes needs to lie there and look at him to reassure himself that Charles is still there and didn't die as a result of his actions), but usually Erik isn't smiling when Charles wakes.
"Morning," he says, yawning, shifting himself slowly into leaning against the pillows. It's a sluggish process, because he's very tired, and, well, it's not as easy to move as it used to be, but Erik doesn't help, except to shift so Charles can use his shoulder to push against. He does take Charles hand once he's settled and, turning it over, kisses the palm.
"Morning," he says, and his eyes are very warm.
It's very difficult to maintain a grip on irritability or exhaustion in the face of that, even if everything sort of hurts and Charles has to go deal with any number of things in the bathroom soon (his body being a wholly different sort of creature these days, one he doesn't fully inhabit yet).
"You look like you slept well," he says, instead of coffee for the love of god give me coffee.
"I did," Erik says. Charles takes his hand back, running his fingers through Erik's hair.
"I'm glad," he says. He's glad for so many things when it comes to Erik, including the fact that he is still here, but especially glad if he has gained a little peace.
