It's the final round of Fandom Steel Cage Madness Something With a Really Long Name Match, and it's Buffy Summers vs. Sheldon Cooper. You guys. You guys. Please go here and vote for Buffy. Please. Because she takes down demons without breaking a sweat, because she does the right thing even when it hurts so much you wonder how she can stand it, because she made every girl who had the potential a Slayer, because she's so fucking awesome that I started watching that show at 14 and have held on to the things I got from it ever since. I say this as a daughter of one: a physicist ain't got nothing on her. It's Buffy. Go vote.

PS. She saved the world. A lot.

ETA: It's like this, see?

"I'm beyond tired. I'm beyond scared. I'm standing on the mouth of hell, and it's going to swallow me whole. And it'll choke on me. We're not ready? They're not ready. They think we're gonna wait for the end to come, like we always do. I'm done waiting. They want an apocalypse? Oh, we'll give 'em one. Anyone else who wants to run... do it now. Because we just became an army. We just declared war. From now on we won't just face our worst fears, we will seek them out. We will find them and cut out their hearts one by one until the First shows itself for what it really is. And I'll kill it myself. There's only one thing on this earth more powerful than evil. And that's us. Any questions?"

All the Buffy love on my flist today inspired me to get a Buffy icon (and then I had to get a Tara one too because she's my favourite). And yes! I want to rewatch it too. In an ideal world, I'd take a week off in the summer and just mainline it.

TARA. I love Tara so goddamn much, I can't even. Where are you finding these icons?

Dude, I want to do that. I just decided I'm buying myself the complete seasons when I turn in my thesis. Reward time, whatever.

TARA, yes, seriously! My ex can't understand my love for Tara but then he's never been a socially awkward teenage girl, so. At the moment I'm raiding the back catalogue at [profile] buffy_icons - though I still can't find a Faith icon I like.

That's an awesome idea! You'll definitely deserve a reward, and what could be a better one??

Oh jeez, I remeber how much Buffy made me want to "save the world". I didn't know HOW, I just wanted to. And I wanted to be able to twirl a stake and do handstands and be a badass.

And that speech was probably my favorite moment of the last season, period. (It was sad when Xander got hurt! I cried.)

EXACTLY. Ridiculous: the first time I watched her take down Acathla because "no weapon forged" is no longer applicable, fuck, I was so PROUD.

The last season is so tragic! ANYA, goddammit, ANYA. :((((( But that speech makes up for a lot.

Now I am sad because my sister totally has the first three seasons on dvd and I neglected to watch them before I left. When (if) I go home over Easter, I'm going to be all over that. Oz! WILLOW. Oh, Willow. ANYA. The singing episode! And Dawn, even though it took a while for the urge to throw things at the tv to pass. Idk why she rubbed me the wrong way.

AND JOYCE. For a popular tv show, there aure are a lot of positive female role models. \o/

FAITH. Ok, I'm going to stop randomly throwing names out. (CORDELIA. I loved her.) *stifles self*

EVERYONE. Basically. I mean, like, even the villains were interesting. And the women were just as badass as the men (or more--Drusilla's definitely among the more terrifying).

Like I said when I voted - ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS BUFFY.

As much as I love Sheldon in all his socially awkward adorable assholish-ness, I've been watching Buffy since I was eight. I'm rewatching the first season now. I cried when Buffy died - both times. That show made me believe in strong women, when the only female role model I had was crumbling to pieces before my eyes. It taught that me that I could decide to never, ever be there myself.

Always, always Buffy.

(Possible you've already seen these, but I felt they needed repeating.)

Also, look! I finally have an awesome woman icon! \o/ ...Even if she is thirteen there.

Ahhhh, Buffy. I have been integrating her back into my life. Angel was my huuuge amazing suck-in to Jossverse but Buffy was always The Woman To Be!
