...I'm reorganizing my books. By genre. Have reached letter P of fiction. Poetry, drama, fantasy/sci-fi, and nonfiction await. Send help, there are TOO MANY BOOKS.

Notes (in progress):

  1. I own a lot of Shakespeare editions. And a lot of poetry collections. And every book Diana Wynne Jones ever wrote.

  2. Half of my bed and half of my floor are covered, and the rest are in piles on the shelves.

  3. Winnie the Pooh stands next to the four book-long novel series on Swedish immigration to the US, which stands next to Cloud Atlas, which in itself contains at least four genres.

  4. ETA: Fiction is done! Sample statistics, A-D:
    1. Men: 29
    2. Women: 44
    3. Books by authors of color: 14
    4. English: 44
    5. Swedish: 19
    6. French: 3
    7. Spanish: 2
    8. Unread:10

  5. ETA 2: Poetry is done!
    1. Number of books: 58
    2. English: 41 (LOL SELF SWEDISH POETRY EXISTS)
    3. Lithuanian: 1

  6. AND DONE. Sort of. The poor nonfiction shelf is crammed and ridiculous and sharing space with part of my postcard collection and some posters, but it's done and it's all sorted and omg my books!

...I haven't touched the fantasy. OH WELL AT LEAST THAT'S IN ONE PLACE. I'm going to go find raspberry sorbet and something to read and then sleep for a million years.

I can't move, Tora. If I don't finish the shelving, I have nowhere to sleep. I've basically sorted myself into a corner. And I have another box of books in the US. WHAT ARE THESE SHENANIGANS.

...I mean I'm having fun. *grins* But seriously, too many books.

Before my latest move I thought it was impossible to have too many books but I've been forced to realise that keeping books I know I will never, ever re-read is actually a bit foolish. At least when it comes to fiction. NON-fiction on the other hand should always be kept, you never know when it might come in useful :-)

Oh, the vast majority of these are ones I've reread. *grins* This is AFTER the many sortings I've done.

It was the first time I did any major sorting of my books so it was quite traumatic! I went from six Billy bookcases full of mostly science fiction and fantasy to just four of them. I could probably pare it down to only three if I had to but since I don't have to I prefer to keep them. I'd no idea books worked as a sort of security blanket :-)

Too many books, I know what you mean! Mine can't be stood neatly on the shelf, they have to be stacked in piles, which makes me sad (but not so sad I'd ever get rid of any).

Diana Wynne Jones is my favourite! Did you know that Enchanted Glass has just come out? One more to add to the piles \0/

They're just so pretty when they're all orderly! And it's so much easier to find them. SURPRISE.

Ahahahahaha, oh. Oh my God, I am dreading moving out of here - my dad gave up so many books when we moved in, but most of mine were still at my mother's then, so I had nothing to give up! \o/ (I still managed to have about ten bags of clothes to his three -_-' And he never shut up about it the whole time we lived at my aunts, and out of those bags.) But now. Oh Jesus, now. Now our lock-up is full (mostly of my bedroom furninture we didn't need here, but at lot of it is books! And old school work, because I'm a dork), my wardrobe has more books than clothes because it's the only place I can put them, not to mention the two stacks next to my bed.

And this is all without the load that's still at my mother's (that she conveniently forgot the location of, at least until I was out the room. All I can say is, thank God I'm best friends with a ninja. Those are my Charlaine Harris books she's hiding, amongst others!). /o\/o\/o\ See, this is why I want a studio flat. SO MUCH ROOM.

...Um. I may have had too much ice cream. I approve of the sorbet! Sorbet is the best. ^_^

Sorbet is the best, indeed! And man, I do know how they take over, the books. They secretly breed, I am convinced of it. *grins*

But sometimes you need to! When you discover that your current system is crap and they're all out of order ANYWAY and you can't find anything. It happens! Not very often, admittedly, but still.
