Three things!

1. I got my ass kicked by my supervisor today, in all the best of ways. It was two hours of completely tearing apart a section in my thesis, and in the process of doing so, she showed me what was wrong with the analysis and how to take a position as a researcher. Which she thinks I should do, because my thesis is "worthwhile" and "fits in the field" and "eventually publishable." I LOVE HER YOU GUYS. Remember the woman from last year? NIGHT AND DAY.

2. I'm rewatching Buffy. Who here loves that show? Is it not the best? I'm in the middle of season 2, and I just, ugh. Giles! Willow! Joyce! Cordelia--I LOVE HER AND HER BITCHY SELF SO! OZ! The vamps--here is where I liked Spike the most, when he was with his crazy lady, and I do like Angel here too. Even Xander has his moments--he's a spot-on teenage boy a lot, so sometimes I want to throttle him, but sometimes he is wonderful. Buffy herself, oh man, I love that girl so fucking much. She's a teenager and she's brave and she hurts and she puts herself back together again and--I just love her, I really really do. *fails at coherency* Come talk to me! Favorite quotes! Moments! Whatever. ♥

3. I signed up for h/c bingo, I'm sure you're all astonished. Because, right, try and think of a single story I've posted that has none, okay? Can you? Comment ficlets don't count. Yeah, I know.

Anyway! I would love ideas! I might rework them into something that is a shade of a remnant of a sliver of the original idea, but still. *beams encouragingly* I will write: The Like, Bob, Brian, Mikeyway, assorted members of FOB and Ashlee Simpson, PATD, TYV, BTVS (especially right now), Veronica Mars, the Bats...

Is it not great? Now tell me what to write!

pneumonia
assault
exhaustion
cuddling for warmth / snowed in
muscle strains and spasms
brain damage
hunger / starvation
chronic illness
undercover: discovered and hurt
drug addiction
telepathy (sudden onset)
loss of hearing
WILD CARD
slaves (sexual)
sensory deprivation
broken bones
pandemics and epidemics
heat stroke
body hatred
torture
spinal injury
character is shown the error of his or her ways
wings (always there)

I love Tara. I... I slightly shipped Buffy/Tara? Because I sort of thought they deserved each other? Actually, it was for pretty much the same reason I shipped Buffy/Oz-- they were my favourites, I thought they deserved to have someone awesome and I thought they'd look cute together.

There are some killer episodes later-- Earshot? I love surprise!telepathy.* And I love Tara, I love Anya, I love Xander getting his life together-- and that it can be a good life. I love the magic shop.

And like you say, I love the humour and heartbreak, because it should be like that. It's just a thing of beauty and a joy forever, and it makes me happy for the fact of its existence.

*I'm listening to the BBC Radio drama remakes/backstory/fanfic of Blakes 7 and they're reminding me how much I loved Cally, who was a teleapth. I don't know if you watched the original or have picked up the remake, but one of the things with Cally was that she represented the telepathic mirror of Spock-- she could send, but not receive except for from her family group, so she represented the isolation of the telepath, she could speak but only into a void, no reply, where Spock's telepathy connected him with others.

I love that you're another one who likes wacky rarepairings. I've never thought of Buffy/Tara, but I can totally get behind that. I'm in the middle of Willow and Oz being adorable, but I can support a future Buffy/Oz/Tara sort of OT3, I think it'd be awesome, and I think the way they'd come together would be awesome.

The magic shop! And oh, Anya, yeah. She's another one that I just, yeah. She's weird in all her demon/human-ness, but she's weird in a way that is always so consistently and reassuringly and wonderfully herself. If that makes sense.

Yes! Humor and heartbreak--it's the thing that a lot of post-Buffy shows/movies don't get right, you know, snarkiness in the face of grave danger--on Buffy it was always a sort of, I don't know, there's a lot of heart and a lot of being so very human in it. You know, tilting your chin up sometimes in order to disguise the trembling, sometimes because you know you've got this.

I've never seen either version of Blake's 7--but it sounds like I would like Cally. I love turning something familiar around like that, silence instead of constant noise, isolation instead of constant two-way communication. It's really interesting.

I loved the series. It does suffer from alien worlds largely looking like that familiar quarry in Wales and costumes that, I'm sure, looked better at the time, but... it was just interesting and different from a lot of other sci-fi.
