Title: Every Word Rang True
Pairing(s): Z/Charlotte
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None.
Word count: 1020
Summary: Z didn't stop talking to Charlotte when she left the band. She couldn't. Slight AU (Z isn't dating Ryan).
A/NFor the Sex Is Not The Enemy Challenge. Prompt: this picture. This is the version of Z and Charlotte with less angst. (It's possible I'm also working on the other version.) The title is from "Tangled Up in Blue" by Bob Dylan and this is also partly for [livejournal.com profile] redbrickrose, who wanted it first.

[livejournal.com profile] blindmouse reminded me of this meme, and it sounds about perfect for how I'm feeling today. (Which is great, btw. I'm feeling great. *clicks play again*)

Give me between three and five first lines from your own fics, and I'll write a comment-length drabble using one of them. Please include a link to the fic along with the line!

I reserve the right to change the pairing or the fandom, if either isn't specified in the first line.

PS. Ah, boys, thank you for coming back with something I fucking adore. ♥

[livejournal.com profile] no_tags reveal!

Um, as always, I bring shocking news. I wrote All That's Best of Dark and Bright, which, yes, it has girls and quiet moments of emotional intensity and an authoritarian regime and magic. I'm not predictable. *grins*

Title: All That's Best of Dark and Bright
Pairing/Prompt: 57, The Like (gen or any pairing--Z/Tennessee), college shenanigans OR Brendon/Spencer, supernatural creatures.
Summary: Z had been waiting for months. A story of werewolves, love, and the beginnings of rebellion.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None besides implied violence.
Word count: 1100
Notes: It appears I wrote both the prompts. Kind of. A little bit. The title is Byron's.

Title: Letting Them Win
Pairing(s): Panic GSF
Rating: R/NC-17
Warnings: Mild s/D dynamics, hair-pulling.
Word count: 1306
Summary: Jon has no idea what his band mates are up to, but he’s beginning to think he might like it. An unauthorized sequel to [livejournal.com profile] fictionalaspect’s All In.

A/N: This is for [livejournal.com profile] fictionalaspect, obviously, because when she posted that story I said something about how Jon Walker needs to get what’s clearly coming to him, and she told me to write it, which--I couldn’t figure out how to get it right, not then. Partly because I'm very bad at writing porn. But then I was writing her a different story in October (yeah, there are two more coming eventually, but they will be much longer, my darling, so they’re not done yet, and also they involve no cheating and riffing off of your stories) when I thought of this. It has been missing about three paragraphs for the last month, so I wrote them now. Hi. Love you and stuff.

When Jon wakes up, the bed is empty and the cabin is quiet. )

Reveals are up! I haven't read much yet this year, what with working a lot during the past week, so I have one million rec posts in tabs from before the reveal and am expecting to do some reading over the next week.

First things first: again, a million thanks to [livejournal.com profile] elementalv for writing The first time..., the Bliss/Pash figuring-it-out fic of my HEART. I loved it so much; I love them so much. Go read and tell her she's awesome. I've reread that story at least eight times and I start quietly beaming to myself every time. So much ♥ (And if you haven't seen Whip It, any of you, oh my god, DO SO IMMEDIATELY.)

Secondly, I wrote Journey To Make, Horizon To Chase for metonymy, which was Narnia/Tam Lin and Susan/Caspian. I just--I don't think I can properly explain how much I loved writing this. I'm going to babble some more about it below, with spoilers for the central idea behind the story.

you know when you get a prompt and you immediately start to smile? )
harborshore: (tiltchin)
I went to mom's choir's Christmas concert today, and cried my way through at least six of the songs because, oh, one of the choir members did a sign language interpretation of "Silent Night" and one more song, and I can't get over her face, how expressive she was and how she was the very incarnation of joy and it was so beautiful, I can't adequately convey how beautiful it was. I'd never have thought you could recreate music with your hands, but she did. And I really liked the inclusiveness, obviously.

(Side note: when I was younger, they thought my hearing problem would get worse and I would have to learn sign language. It didn't, it went away instead and I put my hearing aids away at twelve, but I still--sign language is high on my list of things I want to learn.)

I feel like writing short-short things, so I thought I'd do one of these. It's been a while. I'll do the first five or six, depending on if my Yuletide grabs me again.

Prompt: a pairing, an AU or a crossover and a first kiss. Fandoms: BTVS, Panic, The Like, Bob, Brian, Mikey Way, Veronica Mars, DCU, Vampire Diaries, etc. You lot know what I write.

Title: Wait For The Sound
Rating: R/NC-17
Summary: High School AU. The sequel to Got That Crazy Rhythm. First times (sort of) and awkwardness.
Pairing: Bob/Brian.
Warnings: None, really. Teenagers and mucking about with everyone's ages, that's about it. They're seventeen years old here, so potentially underage sex? I never know what those laws are.
Word Count: 2900.
Disclaimer: Bob Bryar is not a girl. None of what happens in this fic is true.
Author's Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski, as always, because this verse is all hers. Also I lied to her shamelessly today about this fic, saying it was very stuck.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] egelantier and [livejournal.com profile] antihysteric for looking it over; any remaining mistakes are definitely my fault. The title is Mirah's.

Bob's on the bed, thinking about taking her shirt off. )

Instead of going to the university library like I should have (I have a late book and a late fee to pay), I went to a feminist/queer bookstore and bought books and a pin of a Russian turn-of-the-century female poet. The two clerks, oh man. I'm pretty sure they were dating and I'm pretty sure I'm smitten. The light was warm and the air was cold as I walked home after; I like my city right now, I like it so much. It's dark already, too dark, but in the daytime everything is yellow and golden and the light is so gorgeous.

So prompts! Because I'm free of thesis and I finished the female characters prompts from forever ago and I mostly finished the first times prompts and the midsummer night's dream ones.

as wide a variety as ever I did write )

Prompts! Fall-related, please, pairing or gen. The Like, Lyn-Z, assorted other bandom people (TYV, PATD, possibly others), Bob and Brian, Veronica Mars, BTVS, VD, Leverage, DCU. Crossovers are encouraged. I'm not sure how many I'll do, but probably around ten (if I get a later prompt that I love, I might do that one too). One of them is reserved for [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv. ♥

Stay warm, darlings.

Title: While The Night Is Still Ahead
Rating: R
Summary: Lay lady lay, lay across my big brass bed.
Pairing: Lindsey/girl!Spencer
Contains: Crossdressing, Spencer-as-a-girl.
Word Count: 3300
Disclaimer: Spencer Smith is not a girl. None of the other stuff happened either.
Author's Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] kickingrad on her (belated) birthday. ♥, dearling, I hope it satisfies. Sorry it's so bloody late: there was some debate about whether or not I should include the porn or write it separate. This has the porn. Also I love you.

The title is from Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay."

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] blindmouse for betaing the first half, and to [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith for doing a second beta, and to everyone who reassured me about this.

Lindsey likes it. She likes the slouchy pants and the hat pulled down low, the undershirt soft against her skin and the suspenders just so. )

Title: Try Imagining A Place
Author: [livejournal.com profile] harborshore
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] marginalia
Fandom: Buffyverse
Pairing: Tara/Dawn preslash
Rating: PG-13 (barely)
Word count: 1400
Disclaimer: I am not Joss Whedon, I promise. I intend no copyright infringement, merely an exploration of alternate possibilities.
Warnings: References to Tara's canonical shooting, a magical coma, and hospitals.
Summary: AU. Tara doesn't die, but as it turns out, surviving a gunshot is the easy part.
A/N: Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski and [livejournal.com profile] anoneknewmoose for looking over this for me; you are both amazing. The title is from Bob Dylan's "Shelter from the Storm." Written for [livejournal.com profile] femslash10.

I'm getting a little tired, is the thing. Because I'm not fond of reading fic and being blindsided by the only woman appearing being an evil doctor or a shrewish girlfriend or, for that matter, the understanding girlfriend who gets out of the picture in order to further the love of our two heroes. Or the only girl dying. Or--you know. (Note: none of these examples are taken from a specific story. That's actually part of the problem--they're tropes. And I keep seeing them and many others and I'm so, so tired.)

I realize that it's hard. I realize our culture premiers the Stories of white dudes. I realize fandom is prone to writing m/m, and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm not asking for everyone to start writing femmeslash, no matter how happy that would make me. No, I'm asking for something much smaller.

As usual, I'm fine with being disagreed with: these are my opinions and I'm definitely wrong sometimes. I would ask that discussion is polite and respectful, with all that that implies.

It's [livejournal.com profile] fictionalaspect's birthday! Dearest cowriter, light of my life, I hope you have the day you want today. I believe I've told you before that I think you're marvelously talented, that it's ridiculously easy to write with you, that you make me kind of happy just in general too, not just because you agree that rare pairings can be the most fun ever. I just love the way you think, loveling, and I love how kind you are, and I love that I found you. ♥ Anyway. You'll never guess what I wrote you--no, you totally will. I hope you like, a little bit. All my love, yeah?

Title: Why Wait Any Longer
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: Annie/Laena
Summary: Annie pines. High School AU, an outtake from an, um, bigger verse. Also, sort of a barista!AU with awkward girls instead of boys.
Warnings: None, really.
Word Count: 2800
Disclaimer: This particular incarnation of The Like did not go to school together, ergo, this story did not really happen.
Author's Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] fictionalaspect on her birthday. ♥, darling, you are a joy, and I hope this is a little bit like how you imagined it back when you first told me to write it. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] blindmouse for looking it over for me and fixing my silliness. The title is from Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay."

Why Wait Any Longer )
harborshore: (tiltchin)
So it's [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski's birthday. Most of you don't know this, but Tora was basically my second friend on livejournal, or something like that (we met because I started telling her a story about Bob kidnapping his poor, stressed manager and taking him on a road trip to the Grand Canyon--yes, that story), and she was the third one I met in real life. You guys, she is so wonderful. Hilarious (and she has the best smile) and tiny and great and we spent an afternoon at Foyle's talking about Bob/Brian porn and scandalizing the poor gentleman next to us--and soon I will see her again! I am of the excitement.

This is my poor, paltry offering for her birthday--it is so silly, so silly, but you know how ridiculous I am, darling, and I hope you like it. It's been--you are a good part of why my life is just a little better these days. All the love ever, yeah? ♥

Title: Got That Crazy Rhythm
Rating: PG-13
Summary: High School AU. Bob hates Brian Schechter. No, she really does.
Pairing: Bob/Brian. Background Z/Tennessee and Brendon/Jepha.
Warnings: None, really. Teenagers and mucking about with everyone's ages, that's about it.
Word Count: 1750
Disclaimer: Bob Bryar is not a girl, nor did he go to high school with Brian Schechter or Z Berg.
Author's Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski on her birthday. ♥, darling, this is the silliest thing, but I do hope you like it just a little bit. The title is from Dylan's "Had a Dream About You, Baby."

So it's been a while since I did one of these. I'm working on a number of original fic prompts that are making me very, very happy, but I also feel like writing short things. So. This month is female characters month, I've decided (partly because I signed up for ladiesbigbang, partly just because, you know).

Guidelines for prompt: Leave me a female character, note if you want gen or femmeslash, and a prompt, preferably a crossover or magical scenario but ordinary ones are fine too. So, for instance: Z had no idea what made her knock on the door of that blue telephone box. Or: Veronica Mars was tired of being woken up in the middle of the night to go deal with things the local Sheriff's office couldn't handle, but this time the case was a little more challenging (aliens are not Neptune standard, even if it might sometimes seem that way).

No genderswap this time, please, and no repeats of characters (unless it's one prompt that is Lyn-Z/Stephanie Brown and one that is Lyn-Z gen or something along those lines). Fandoms I'm okay to write: MSI, The Like, Greta Salpeter, other bandom ladies, Leverage, BTVS, DCU, Veronica Mars, the other usual suspects (you're welcome to try asking for someone else if you think I'm capable).

Title: Know Every Scene By Heart
Pairings: girl!Spencer/Ryan
Word Count; 2000
Warnings: None
Summary: The lack of easy access to a somewhat cryptic best friend is one of the shittiest things about this band split business.

A/N: This is a sequel to Not That Hard To Find. It's not strictly necessary to read that first, but it might be helpful. Fics in this verse are always for [livejournal.com profile] blindmouse, even when I make her beta them (see below).

This was looked over by [livejournal.com profile] blindmouse and [livejournal.com profile] kickingrad, a duo of much awesomeness. If there are any remaining problems, it is most certainly not their fault. The title belongs to Bob Dylan, as always, and just like last time, it's from "If You See Her, Say Hello."

Title: When the Shadows Appear
Rating: R
Pairing: Bob/Brian
Disclaimer: To the best of my knowledge, none of what happens in this story (or immediately preceding its beginning) is true.
Summary: Jesus, this band's fucking hard on their drummers. California, present day.
Warnings: Uh, none. Angst, but things get better.
Word Count: 2330
Author's Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski and [livejournal.com profile] desfinado for looking at this, and to [livejournal.com profile] thesamefire for hand-holding and reminding me how to write sex. Brian's opinions as a POV character are not necessarily the same as mine.

From [livejournal.com profile] jamjar:

Give me the premise for a crossover (what if someone in a fairytale meets the devil, who turns out to be Crowley?), a fusion ( what if Veronica Mars is a slayer?) or an AU (what if Lyn-Z was a space princess? Or Ryan was a girl and a superhero?).

OR (stolen from [livejournal.com profile] lordessrenegade) give me one of the following tropes (observe that at least half of them count as AU premises, and that is a-okay--combining two memes is better than one, right?).

All the tropes are taken!

Rare pairings are encouraged, specific prompts are beloved, fandoms include but are not limited to: bandom (the only stipulation here being that I cannot write Frank pov right now), DCU, BTVS, ATS, and Veronica Mars.

ETA: And we're done!
harborshore: (zoid)
I'm going to start by I rec the one [livejournal.com profile] lyo wrote for me, Space Where We Meet Is Different From The Rest, because it is a girl!Mikey/Alicia and a boarding school AU, and it is sweet and achy and sharp and fair to the characters and god, I love it so so much. She captures the confusion of figuring out your sexual identity when you're a teenager so well, and how pressure to conform can fuck you up, and I fell more than a little in love with her Mikey. Go read, go read.

This post is also a belated [livejournal.com profile] no_tags reveal--not that it is all that necessary, because as at least three of you guessed, I wrote the one that had talking fish and Lyn-Z being a Real Girl. *grins* There were two things I wanted to do: one was to not write anything too over-the-top (my contrary self wanted to see if I could make them kiss in a way that actually wasn't super-romantic, even if the story was clearly heading toward a place where they fell in love), and the other was to make damn sure I didn't reduce Lyn-Z to a muse (that was mostly an ending problem, feel free to tell me if I managed). Mostly, I had so much fun writing this story, especially because I cunningly figured out that it was for [livejournal.com profile] wasoncedelight (it took no great stealth, her photobucket name is somewhat revealing) and therefore got to write for a darling of mine, at the same time as I could be reasonably sure she would like it. So, dear all, here is a story about Gerard and a mermaid. Sort of.

Title: See You In The Morning Light
Pairing/Prompt: Gerard/Lyn-Z, based on this photo.
Rating: PG
Warnings: No warnings needed.
Summary: What would you do if a strange girl washed up on shore and demanded a kiss?
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] no_tags, originally posted over here. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] anoneknewmoose and [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith for looking it over and making me fix the ending.

It was dusk when Gerard got to the beach. )
harborshore: (zoid)
This is the story I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] popoffacork! Since it is both a rare pairing and a magical realism AU, well, I feel it was sort of obviously mine. I'm reposting it here because I like having all my stories in one place (I'm weirdly organized about very few things in my life, but writing is one of them). I still have to answer all the lovely feedback I got over there, but that'll have to wait until, hmm, maybe when I'm at work.

I had so much fun writing this story, you have no idea. The house is alive! *beams*

Title: Taken My Place
Pairing: Mikey/Ray, background Brian/Gerard, Frank/Jamia and Alicia/Lyn-Z.
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Mikey's new roommate is hot, but his house is really fucking weird.

Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] dancinbutterfly for [livejournal.com profile] popoffacork. Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith and [livejournal.com profile] anoneknewmoose for stellar betas. Also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] softlyforgotten for helping me come up with things for the house to do! Originally posted here.
